fla 9 Posted January 25, 2005 Us privileged creatures with aircon, what do you use to prevent the hoses rubbing against the cooling fan frame? My car has some pipe insulation which of course has become hard and is crumbling. Not a good solution i think, as the sharp edge of the fan frame will cut through the new insulation. Any pics of your setups/engine bays?
borderair 0 Posted January 26, 2005 Armaflex is the is the original foam padding - this may be hard to refit because the pipe will need to be removed to do the job properly. Nylon split tubing is the other acceptable option You will need to measure the OD of the pipe to obtain the correct size
Storm 0 Posted January 26, 2005 Where do you get that stuff?
borderair 0 Posted January 26, 2005 how much and what size do you need - i may be able to help
fla 9 Posted January 26, 2005 Well, sufficient to protect the hoses from the fan frame. Dont thknow the hose diameters, I'd need to check. But not more than about 25mm i guess. And we'd only need about half a meter or so tops. Thanks
borderair 0 Posted January 26, 2005 will have a look what ive got later - is it for both the suction and discharge hose? I am guessing that it is a Diavia kit with Goodyear galaxy hose?
Storm 0 Posted January 26, 2005 Borderair, are you an AC specialist?

fla 9 Posted June 19, 2005 borderair, just to bring this one up again, how much is this tubing? I've got some foam tubing over the pipes at present and its become a bit crumbly. Another thing, the pipe obscure the connector for the Crank sensor plus others. My system needs regassing so i'd like to remove the pipes temporarily in orderto gain access to the connectors and other bits under it. What would you advise here re pipe removal, moisture ingress and use of the car with the pipes disconnected? Thanks
borderair 0 Posted June 20, 2005 the tubing is cheap about 5 quid for what you need. You say your system needs regassing - is it empty? If not you need to get the gas recovered by a specialist. I whould not advise removal of the pipes for more than a few hours unless the system can be properly capped. The reciever drier should be changed every three years as a service item. Moisture in the system will react with the PAG oil in the system a cause acid - not good. Hope these short answers help you
fla 9 Posted June 21, 2005 Thanks for the advice borderair, PM sent.
fla 9 Posted September 8, 2008 Is Bordeair still on the site? If not, where cn you get this armaflex from or the nylon tubing? Not sure if nylon would be stable enough for the manifold and engine block temps though...
coolrado 0 Posted September 8, 2008 The split corrugated plastic conduit should be available from any electrical wholesalers like edmunsons, ect. the problem is it's usually sold in at least 25 meter rolls. Its the same stuff that protects the power steering hose at the bottom of the front crossmember on all corrado's. Or find a SEAT ibiza around 2003 reg in a scrappy and the whole wiring loom is covered in the stuff, does a much better job of protecting the wires than the cloth tape and stops the wires from going brittle.
