kongo127 0 Posted February 6, 2005 Ok mates... To be honest i'm really getting annoyed with this. This is my G60 setup: - SNS Stage II chip - 68mm pulley - K&N Panel Air Filter - ISV check valve - Brand new fuel pump and 3.5bar fpr - New Blue Temp. Sender - Stock fuel injectors, intercooler and camshaft Timing is set to 8 deg. The car tends to pink on acelerator pick-up (not on high revs.) when i use 98 RON fuel. When i use BP Ultimate 100 RON the car never pinks! (though this fuel is very expensive). If i set it back to 7deg does it mean power loss? I remember running this setup this summer, and the engine was not pinking! What is wrong? Thanks in advance!
stevemac 0 Posted February 6, 2005 8 degrees is too far advanced - retard it back to 7 degrees. Higher octane fuel = more advance. 98RON will pink at 8 degrees BTDC. Also get a new "knock sensor", it the car's pinking - this sensor is faulty. When the car starts to "pink" - the knock sensor should retard the timing automatically. kongo127 0 Posted February 6, 2005 thanks steve! :D
potatonet 0 Posted February 6, 2005 when you advance the timing all you are doing ir changing the powerband, when you advance your power band drops to lower RPM's, when you retard your power is all in the top end. just some basics
kongo127 0 Posted February 6, 2005 Nice one mate! Didn't know about that! It is true! I always playing with timing, and i feel the engine much more responsive at low rpm's when i advance timing! Lots of fun! Lovely forum ain't it? :-P :D :D :D
STORM 2 0 Posted February 7, 2005 is BP Ultimate 100RON?
kongo127 0 Posted February 7, 2005 Yes! Here in Portugal it is.
G60Jet 1 Posted February 7, 2005 kongo127, Is your boost dropping off before it pinks, if so thats good, if not you may have a bigger problem, the ISV should dump boost if the engine starts to pink. Basically thats one way of protecting the engine.
potatonet 0 Posted February 7, 2005 being on the subject of pinking my corrado idles at 750ish and trembles greatly when down there. but its not continuous tremble its like a wave, goes then comes every 2 seconds. is my knock sensor smoked? if I keep the revs a little higher its not as predominant. but there is no clunking, like a thrown rod. just jittery
stevemac 0 Posted February 8, 2005 I still think your timing is slightly too far advanced. The "trembling" is likely to be the knock sensor retarding the timing as it senses the pinking.
