Jim 2 Posted June 19, 2003 Hm.. i'd personally be calling up a local VW specialist, and getting them to give the car a once over or a checkover on a rolling road. If you have any doubts, that will identify flat spots in the rev range and help identify any potential problems.. But could turn out positive.... Had my ex-16v RR'd at a CCGB day up at Stealth Racing early last year some time - came back at a healthy 144BHP, even though I was certain there must be something not right :)
KARMANN 0 Posted June 20, 2003 Yeah i know thats prob the best thing to do.can anyone recomend good VW specialist in glasgow area?how much should i expect to pay for the once over?anything else i should ask them to check?the car takes bout 2-3 seconds longer than it should to hit 60 annoying!!also from about 70-100 feels sluggish i had a 1.4 306 and from anywhere above 70 i recon it would leave my C for dead. Supercharged 2 Posted June 22, 2003 As its on 80k miles I would put it in for a major service and just tell the garage it feels a bit sluggish, then with a change of plugs, and new filters they can tune it up for you and diagnose any problems. VW charge around £200 - a good specialist may charge a similar amount but do a much more comprehensive service so you'll get more for your money! If you decide to not use a VW dealer it may be an idea to buy the genuine service parts first, most specialist don't mind this and then you can just pay for labour... If you know the right places you can shop around and get things cheaper than garages anyway (especially at shows) - Also most service parts are around half price through the VW parts club (through the CCGB)
