Oil found in pipes around supercharger! Noooo!

Recommended Posts

Can I ask whether the pipe between the airbox and charger and the one between the charger intercooler should have ANY oil in it?? I have had the charger rebuilt by G-Werks 2K ago so when I found some oil I was a tad concerned... Theres not very much, enough to make a cloth dirty but not anywhere near scooping levels. Just need to know whether theres somethign I need to look at or do

the charger's seals will pass a light mist of oil... Also, do you have the boost return pipe still connected? (the pipe which connects to the right top of the charger and comes from the bottom of the throttle body) This will introduce some oil into the system too...

If it's only the ammount that you mention, it's nothing to worry about... 8)

Did you clean out that pipe when you refitted the charger? There is always a bit of oil floating about in there.

You would know if it were really bad, there would be a MK3 Escort cloud following you around.

It's probably the superlube spray that daz sprays into the charger to keep it lubricated, there is no way oil can get into the airbox-charger pipe unless it's sprayed in there as the G60 doesn't have an oil breather that goes to the airbox like on the golf 8v's. I dont think it's anything to worry about if there was quite a bit of oil after charger then the most likely cause would be a popped oil seal but as it's just a small amount I would'nt worry!!

Thanks Henny. Yeah the boost return is still there. The amount is visible just looking into the pipes, but have read people referring to 'more than a teaspoon' - does this suggest if you can literally scoop it out? cant help being a bit anal about this!!

Had rules out the charger and I've not long fitted a new K&N panel so...

Oil is in the pipe from airbox to charger is probably just the K&N panel filter oil working it's way through as you have to oil them when they are new to filter out more of the crap that passes through them!!!

Have you seen one recently without one???

That goes hand in hand with the chocolate camshafts in Cavaliers and Ashtrays and also the candyfloss cambelts in CVH motors of the same era.

I did 28K in 11 months in my 'cough' xr3 without a belt snapping.

If only the lottery was running then, I could have got 6 numbers week after week with my luck. :shocked!:

woah - didn;t see all the other messages - thanks again guys :notworthy:

Yeah I replaced the pipes (airbox-charger, muffler-ic pipe). So maybe its the lube spray... I think my mind is at rest now :)
