Timo, you need the Golf 4Motion discs (audi is different offset) and carriers and 288 calipers. You also need to space the carriers with some washers to centre the calipers over the discs on the VR hubs.

I would like to point out though that you will be increasing unsprung weight quite a bit, so you might need to crank the damping up slightly to compensate.

Cheers Guys.

I'll make sure that - 8N0615301A are the right ones (i.e. are used on the 4motion golf.)

I have the 288 calipers as you know and I just got the carriers from a 4motion golf.

Wont have these brakes on till the VR comes out of the garage in 6 months time or so. Sssshhhhh!!! Its sleeping.

P.S. what kind of washers?? Is it a sort of trial and error fitment to find out the thickness required??

cheers chaps

Aye. Asim (Moonlight VR), Mike Edwards (I think he's done them too) or Vince at Stealth know what's involved in more detail...

Anyone know if the brake pads for the 288mm setup and the 312mm setup are the same??

Just trying to sort out brake pads and what ones I need.

Cheers

PS. I now have all the parts I need to go from the 288 -> 312mm.

Just have to wait about 5 months for the VR to be back on the road. :(

6mm is absolutely bang on for the spacer Timo. I have them on mine and spent a lot of time making sure they were perfectly central. Some people use 7mm but there is actually a bit of an optical illusion and if you check it with feeler guages 6mm is perfect.

You can use a stack of thick washers. I didn't really like the look of a big stack of washers so my Dad machined up some 6mm spacers for me on the lathe (handy tool!).

I think AMD sell them, but they are 7mm. Still work OK.

cheers Jay.

Have plenty of agricultural suppliers around here so shouldn't be too hard to get some that will fit.

Fitted one side today. Disc is perfectly central with 3 washers (2mm thick).

Does it have to be perfectly central or is a little bit of centre ok?

I also found the new discs were just scrapping the metal guard for the disc. Bent that back a little and it was spot on!

There aint much room between the disc and the bit where the carrier bolts on. Knat's wisker springs to mind.

They do look rather nice though. Trying to decide whether to take it apart again and paint the carrier and caliper. Black or red??? What do you reckon?

Cheers

T.
