isv pipe 'thing'

just wondering, the plastic pipe that goes to the isv across the manifold (dont know what it actually does)

 

what would happen if you replaced it with a larger diameter pipe? please help put an end to my curiosity :D Andy.

I believe the pipe you're talking about allows air to bypass the throttle body when the throttle is closed, allowing the car to idle. I expect that replacing it with a larger a diameter pipe would have little effect, although if it did change anything it would probably just make the idle unstable. Could be wrong.

thanks for the replies.. the reason i ask is, i found a nice chrome pipe which fits well, but is larger.so i wanted to know if i was going to damage anything by fitting it. seems to work ok, but didnt want to keep it on if was causing unseen probs.

Like this chrome pipe across the front of the manifold..........if your worried about it changing anything then just get another chrome pipe from B&Q with the right diameter, Really cheap!!!!!!!!!!!!!

my bay wasnt far from that when i got the C. plenty of man hours and attention to detail later, and its not looking quite as dead, its almost respectable lol... ill get some pics up when i get hold of a cam.
