VEEDUBBED 0 Posted May 2, 2005 2.9 corrado's have a bosch 120 amp alternator. Maybe the golf 3 AAA code motor(2.8) got the 90amp jobbie??.

vondribbley 0 Posted May 2, 2005 My VR6 did have a 70A that has been replaced with another 70A recently. What I would like to know is can you fit a 150A alternator to the VR6. I've just picked up one of eBay that was on a Galaxy VR6. If you can fit it what effect on performance and battery charging will it have?

If you can fit it what effect on performance and battery charging will it have? performance - it will slow you down, as it could sap more power from the engine and is heavier! battery charging - won't make any difference, unless you have 10 electric windows all working at once and ICE that fills your entire boot. :) Seriously though, there's not much point in fitting a bigger alternator unless you have a current drain that needs it, my old 65amp one was fine with all electrics on, 100W headlights on full and a stereo and 100W per channel amp thumping away, I only changed to a Passat 90Amp as it was all I could find at the time (and BTW the Passat had the Bosch 90amp on the 1.8 16v KR engine). vondribbley 0 Posted May 3, 2005 Cheers for the info David that's pretty much as I thought Wonder why the galaxy needs such a monster then? I'll probably keep it in reserve then for when I put the big ICE in :afro:

I'll probably keep it in reserve then for when I put the big ICE in :afro: I guess you've got all the extra usual electrics these days, lots of additional courtesy lights, electric motors in all the air-con system (climatronic), multi-speaker stereos, extra 12v power outlets and the potential for DVD/playstations etc. in the head rests and so on... My polo had a 45Amp, but then most of those didn't even have a giggy lighter! David.
