The Boy 0 Posted May 16, 2005 Hey there guys. This ones got me. I changed my oil filter and oil. To do two jobs at once i was planning to change the sump gasket at the same time. After unbolting nearly all the bolts, i found there was two i could not reach at the one end - as i have now read about they are a bugger to get to. I gave up and screwed it all back together. I then drove from Birmingham to Bristol with out a hitch. The next day after a 10 mile drive, i pulled up and lost loads of oil when i stopped (pouring). I have checked all the bolts are tight (and there), sump bolt and oil filter is seated right. I topped her up and now it seams that i loose some (10 -12 splashes) mainly when i got in reverse. The oil seems to come from by/near the filter (above the sump but its hard to see) Could i have killed the sump gasket totally? Could the torque from reverse upset it? Anyone know how to reach those two bolts? Anyone own a garage they wanna fix my car in for free? All help is appreciated
Henny 0 Posted May 16, 2005 to get the bolts out you need a 1/4 inch drive socket set with a wiggle-woggle ended extension bar so you can get in at the two bolts... You also need to remove the gearbox flange cover plate (the small plate at the bottom of the gearbox) which is held in with 2 more 10mm headed bolts. stevemac 0 Posted May 16, 2005 can you do the sump gasket and get away with the crankshaft oil seals ?Sump gasket change shouldn't affect crank seals. More likely the oil filter seal ring is either missing, damaged or the oil/water heat exchanger is now leaking.
