Steering racks

Recommended Posts

Cheers, so the rack is the same as a 16v Mk2?

yep, for most corrado 1.8 16v's, changed at chassis No. 50-N-011487, but not shared with any other VW's AFAIK.

David.

I have another Question, Henny you dont know what you started!!! ,

A mate is putting an engine into his 16v, it was in a vr, so the VR pump will not work with any other rack?

sounds stupuid, but i think i am right....

Thanks

Nope, the VR6 p.steering pump won't work because the bolt attachments are totally different and the pulley is bigger, also the banjo bolt is bigger.

I've fitted the VR's 'ZF' steering rack into my G60 corrado, that works but you have to change the inner steering arms because the original VR ones are too long, the g60 arms bolt up ok.

i have a 1994 pas vr6 rack in my 1989 mk2 golf gti all i did was bought golf mk2 track rod ends and used the steering nuckle off the vr6 to join it all up, its quite a quick rack on a golf, i retained the 8v gti pump too,,

works well!! :-)

i think any of them will fit just need to change track rod ends and the steering nuckles accordingly,,,

olly elworthy, that's exactly the kinda answer I was after... 8)

The racks I have will have new ends on when they're fitted to the car, so it sounds like I could have a go-er! 8)
