jonny-5 0 Posted August 11, 2005 Hi, A mechanic friend the other day told me that he thinks the piston rings have gone on my valver, because of the smell (kinda rich exhaust smell) and it get through oil a bit too quickly. Does anyone have any other ideas?or if it is the rings what the best to go about fixing it? cheers
h100vw 0 Posted August 11, 2005 Valve guides tend to go before rings in my experience. What engine are you running? 16V/G60/VR? The 4 pot bottom ends are pretty robust, the VR is ok too, unless abused with infrequent oil changes. They all tend to do 100K plus before needing top end work. gavin
jonny-5 0 Posted August 11, 2005 It's a 1800 16v and it's on about 110,000. I'll go and see stealth and see what they reckon
mrbeige 0 Posted August 11, 2005 Does it have difficulty starting when left overnight? And do you get a puff of blue smoke on start up?
jonny-5 0 Posted August 11, 2005 No, it's never given me any problems when starting, it goes the second you turn the key. I'll have to have someone check for the smoke tho
