stoph-16v 0 Posted July 29, 2003 Hi all, Got a rattle on my 2L 16v on startup which is getting progressivley worse. I am told it's the cam belt/timing chain. Is this a job I can do, or is it best left to a specialist? How much should I expect to pay for the work? Any good ppl round the west midlands? I am also told it could be the oil feeder pipe from the sump to the tappets getting clogged, or my oil pump. Oil pressure is down and I keep getting a beeping with the oil light that goes when I rev the engine...? (I have seen the posts on this subject and will be changing the oil pump and filter asap just to be safe)

steveo29 0 Posted July 29, 2003 sounds like they werent sure what was wrong.....best drop the sump and inspect things,if its filthy in there a good clean out of the pick up tube will improve things...if its had a hard life then a new oil pump would be a good idea the cam belt and chain are cheep..and fiarly striaght forward if your handy at diy
stevemac 0 Posted July 29, 2003 Sounds like an oil pressure problem - low oil pressure on startup will cause your tappets to rattle. I agree with Scott, you need to find the root of the problem or you may end up wasting a load of cash. Wise word of warning - don't drive the car until it's sorted. The problem you describe could, ultimately, cause your engine to seize !!
