4stud 0 Posted August 30, 2005 http://www.cats-direct-shop.co.uk/volks ... rdset1=145 Bought a cat off of these guys. Cheap and on the doorstep straight away. Maybe they can help.
dazzyvr6 0 Posted August 30, 2005 how bad is it?could you not take it off and get it straightened and welded?
Supercharged 2 Posted August 30, 2005 Erm... Is that CAT itself ok?? I take it the sheild has just fallen off or making a nasty vibration at around 2500 rpm? If it has fallen off then leave it off, I reckon 50% of people on here don't have it anymore, especially if the cars are low - just take it easy over speedbumps and don't park in long grass  If it's just broken on one side and rattles then the best fix is a large jubillee clip, you can get it welded but it will come off again in a few weeks or speed humps time... The £400 you were quoted is basically for a new CAT as the sheild is part of it!
VR6 0 Posted August 30, 2005 Think we should charge £100 for the advice about taking it off! :) Swine to get off though, especially on a lowered car with no ramp!
IJV77 0 Posted August 31, 2005 CAT itself is fine just the heats shield is falling apart, looks like i will have to try and squeeze underneath with a jubilee clip. thanks for the advice everyone the cheque is in the post VR6. :)
DEL VR6 0 Posted August 31, 2005 Mine was making a crappy noise, and the mechanic just yanked it off after a bit of too-ing and fro-ing. Its the best thing really. I wouldnt waste your time and money on trying to make sure you have this part in place. Get it yanked off.
Henny 0 Posted August 31, 2005 the lower heat sheild on the cat is only there to make sure you don't burn the ground when you park on dry grass and the like! a large jubilee clip is almost certainly the best solution... 8)
DEL VR6 0 Posted August 31, 2005 try and get the car up on a ramp if you can cos it can be a bit tight under there!
Cougar 0 Posted September 1, 2005 Ripped mine off yesterday as a matter of fact.
Paul 8v 0 Posted September 1, 2005 There is one alternative, get some fibreglass loft insulation and put it between the heatshield and the cat, works a treat!
