INTERCOOLERS, WHAT FITS INTO A G60...

Recommended Posts

It looks as though you'll get a better airflow with an RS style bumper although if you wanted to get a bit more airflow using the standard bumper you can do away with your fog lamps and put in two vents. I can't remember who does them though but you can colour code them and attach flexi hosing to the back of them to focus the airflow.

do ya need to replace the fogs for mot time?

well donesnt have to be RS ive got a GTX lol ;)

but yeah if engine tuning your things it going to be hard to stick to the original bumper, again thats very present with big powered turbo cars they all have after market bumpers or originals modified with a opening escort RS 2 boys are the best example

If customers want to get the hole saw out and want to hack their bumper out then that is up to them. The lower grill does act as a natural air dam and at speed then the volume of air passing over the core whether it be mounted on the outside of the car in the airflow or in the position where we fit them is negligible.

As an example although not a Corrado but a Polo G40 with a G60 charger on >>>>>

The customer decided that he wanted to fit the biggest cooler possible, it worked well. But after several tugs by the Law for his 'snow plough' intercooler fitment he opted to fit one of our coolers that sits behind the bumper. The intercooler we fit to the Polo's is the same as the corrado ones.

With the intercooler sitting behind the bumper, again with a few rows exposed by the grill and the rest of the air being fed from the air duct of the bumper. The efficiency of the new cooler provided exactly the same temperature differential of post intercooler inlet temperatures as that of the old snow plough. G60 charger, 65mm toothed pulley and 23PSI.

So I would have to disagree with you. There is plenty of air passing though the lower grill, hence why corrado Rads keep the coolant temp down effectively even though only a little is exposed to direct air flow as such from the grill.

If anybody wants a snow plough intercooler conversion I can supply one for £50 and give you some free ratchet straps to mount it in direct air flow :D

I was answeing to the title of the post that asks what fits 'into' a G60 rather than 'onto' a G60

yeah i remember that polo and i did think that was way OTT and could have been done better and like you mentioned you have fitted it differently behind the bumper

Also reason the law pulled him over is that is a odvious metal part that is lethal to predestrian if one was to have crossed in front of him and to be honest it shouldnt have been done that way in the first place.

hence why its a MOT failure to have a metal bumper on there without the plastic covering and i know in case of old cars they need to have smoothed edges or covering to protect pedestrians.

I know this because best mate is a MOT tester and we went through all of silly things you see on the road

Yep, I have to agree with the pedestrian safety thing and would like to point out we did not fit the first intercooler.

mate easiest way is to remove the carbon canister (assuming u have one) build some kind of ram/ducting so air is forced up to the under the airfilter and youve already got the Jabba heatsheild so that should keep you happy

sorry appologies forgot u mentioned the 2nd air feed

one option is to get the same setup as john lowering the rad ?

or if your running g60 rad cant you place the airfilter to the side of the rad/front of the supercharge and have the pipe work come round and up into the charger?

I cant remember what obstructions there is behind the fog light but im guessing shouldnt be a prob

Heres mine. The rad is moved flush with the panel now so looks a bit tidier. Required a fair bit of triming to the front panel but other then thats its a neat enough install. Want a nicer looking IC to TB boost pipe made up. And im sure its getting plenty of airflow behind the grill and with it removed plenty of the core is exposed.

Its made by 'Allard' but its not a new one. Was on a couple of G60's before mine so has being around for a while.

And I didnt bother to take any measure ments when fitting the thing so cant provide any help there. When I get around to fitting my oil cooler Ill keep a measuring tape handy.

It looks like one of their standard aftermarket ones... They're available from their website in several flavours and sizes... 8)

Biggest headache for the guy who I bought the kit off was getting a pipe made up from the SC to the IC. The IC to TB pipe is pretty much a straight pipe with the CO pot fitted. The inlet and outlet are on both sides of the IC so no need for the rallye u-bend.

was thinking on min eof using a asamco 76mm 180 degree u bend pipe after my rsr outlet mimicing a rallye u bend,, its tight for clearance but i think i can get it to work,,

Another vote for the Golf G60. The install would have been really straight forward if I'd used a golf rallye/g60 radiator too. But it still wasn't overly complex modifying the standard corrado one - I'll write a guide eventually :)

Couple of pics:

Edit: Oops sorry about huge pictures!
