daves16v 1 Posted October 6, 2005 I know it's not a Corrado but value peeps opinions on what Oil I should be putting in my 2000x 1.8T Passat? I've always used Quantum Silver in my Rado but thought I'd ring the Dealer only to be told to use Castrol GTX. I know alot of people don't rate Castrol. I also read somewhere VAG don't use Quantum anymore? Is Quantum for older engines or will I be ok to use it? Is the Silver 10/40 or 15/40? Appreciate your help. Cheers Dave
daves16v 1 Posted October 6, 2005 Been on the phone to GSF, they looked it up in their 'Oil' book and said Quantum Silver is the one to use? Anyone care to express an opinion.
Geo 0 Posted October 6, 2005 Sounds right to me. The Quantum Silver is 10w/40 afaik. I don't like castrol myself and I've heard a lot of people say the same.
daves16v 1 Posted October 6, 2005 Geo, Thanks mate, I've gone and bought the Quantum this afternoon. The guys at GSF thought it was strange that VW recommended Castrol. You're right it's 10w/40.
Roger Blassberg 0 Posted October 7, 2005 Hmmmm. I thought that turbocharged cars demanded special oils because of the extremes of heat-soak from the turbo bearings. Not saying your advice was wrong, just slightly uneasy. Cue OILMAN. Best wishes RB

All VW's I've had specify the grade of oil required in the manual, ring your local dealer with your chassis No. or reg plate if still not totally sure. David.
