cymru-corrado 0 Posted October 7, 2005 head gasket has gone, was a pressure problem.anyone ideas on how much likely gonna be.mate reckoned £140 on parts then 3-4hrs labour in a garage to do it.
ben16v 0 Posted October 7, 2005 sounds about right, with a skim, if you got a mate who`s handy i`d give it a go yourself
cymru-corrado 0 Posted October 7, 2005 i got a mate who is half tidy but aint got stuff to do skimming if needed.
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted October 7, 2005 It won't need skimming providing the run out is no more than 0.5mm end to end. Just get a steel gasket from VW from a 2.0 16V (it will need slight modification to the rear locating dowel holes, nothing major, 5 mins work), emery the head and block surface and refit. It's prolly half a day's work to a relatively novice DIY'er. Oh and you'll need new head bolts too and they're actually one of the most expensive parts! cymru-corrado 0 Posted October 7, 2005 yeah mate said the bolts are expensive.......bloody screws lol
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted October 7, 2005 From memory there are 10 of them and I'm sure they're about £8 each...not cheap. You'll need to make sure you mate has a size 12 (IIRC) spline key to undo them.
Henny 0 Posted October 10, 2005 10 head bolts - true £8 per bolt - VERY false... ;) Get 'em from ECP or GSF and they're half that... (unless you have a Rallye (1H) engine in which case they're £7 each from VW... :( )
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted October 10, 2005 LOL, I wouldn't use anything but VW when it comes to gaskets and bolts personally.... unless the ones GSF sell are OE victor Reintz ones.
stevemac 0 Posted October 10, 2005 unless the ones GSF sell are OE victor Reintz ones.Certainly are m8 . Gasket sets are either Reintz or Elring - both are OE suppliers
