flusted 0 Posted October 10, 2005 If anyone remembers,i fitted a firebreather to my motor a while back, then sold it  Whilst on ebay serchin throttle bodies,i came a cross a porsche 924/944s tb,Which believe it or not is (u guessed it) a webber firebreather!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Anyway,i won it and just need to make an adaptor plate and it will be on my motor again 8) Il take pics of progress, but heres my old thread: http://the-corrado.net/.archive/forum/viewtopic. ... 00&start=

flusted 0 Posted October 15, 2005 I decided to get my friend to custom build me the top half of the inlet manifold incorperating a bigger flange for the new tb.This way,it wont be as restrictive as on a standard inlet manifold where you only have the small oval hole that the tb sits over, instead, having a 60mm whole for the new tb
flusted 0 Posted November 23, 2005 As ive had some pms regarding firebreather,il bring this back to life. Still waiting on the custom manifold but heres a pic of porsche tb (top) and the bottom is a pic of webber firebreather Also found this from the web This is a new Weber supplied injection throttle body kit to fit the VW Golf 1.6 GTi Mk 1 1976 on. Part number is 15550.901 This originally came from USA & uses a Redline adaptor with all necessary fittings included. Fitting is easy & instructions are included, as is the original box. When this kit was first introduced a number of years ago the bhp increase was small, however the torque & throttle response was very noticable & became a big seller with VW tuning specialists. flusted 0 Posted November 28, 2005 measured the standard throttlebody plates yesturday: small butterfly 36mm Large butterfly 52mm Which if i did my maths correctly, would mean a surface area of 64mm Firebreather is 60mm so shouldnt really cause engine to lean out? jezzaG60 0 Posted November 29, 2005 How much is a Firebreather and redline plate worth? I might have one for sale if the offers right.
flusted 0 Posted November 30, 2005 Remember they are for a mk1 so quite a bit of modding is needed.I sold mine modded for £150,theres a few people after em in the wanted section
flusted 0 Posted December 3, 2005 Heres the pics,im well impressed with my mates fab work, hes custom made the plenum and welded it to a 42mm top half of manifold, incorparating the flange for the porsche tb

rolex 0 Posted May 5, 2010 hows this for a resurrection !?!? Anyone have the part no. for the porshce tb? I know Henny wrote it in a post some where, but i cant find it.......
Henny 0 Posted May 6, 2010 you mean THIS thread? The weber has a 65mm single butterfly which equates to a total area of around 33cm[sup:7tgdwuhj]2[/sup:7tgdwuhj] The standard throttle has a 36mm and a 53mm butterfly which equates to a total area of around 32cm[sup:7tgdwuhj]2[/sup:7tgdwuhj] HOWEVER, there's only one spindle to get in the way (which equates to around another 2cm[sup:7tgdwuhj]2[/sup:7tgdwuhj] to take off the standard throttle) and the actual casting of the throttle body is much less restrictive and larger than the standard throttle body... Having had a couple of these, believe me when I say that they REALLY do make a huge difference in the way the car drives... 8) *EDIT* blimey! Have just looked at the site I got my second one of these from, they've still got some in stock! 8)

Henny 0 Posted May 6, 2010 it's a bloody nightmare! :gag: Click on the "online list" and the either search for something out of the following text, or scroll down until you see the Weber section, and then go to the end of that section... 8) don't use the tabs at the bottom! eugopnosaj 0 Posted May 6, 2010 How big is the TB from the 16v ABF engine, its round like the weber but im not sure on the size...probably easier to get hold of me thinks
rolex 0 Posted May 6, 2010 Henny do you have part no. for porsche tb that was as good as firebreather? think it was off a 944 maybe? im sure you or flusted have mentioned it before. Ta.
Henny 0 Posted May 7, 2010 not me guv... I've only used (modified) stock or the Firebreather on my engines, so I didn't know about the 944 one until I saw this thread... :?
colinstubbs 0 Posted May 8, 2010 I think the 944 TB is the same one as the 924 TB. As stated ...er...somewhere on this forum the porsche Firebreather item opens in the opposite direction and has a weak spring. i have that TB and a slight 'manipulation' of the throttle cable direction and manufacture of a situable throttle quadrant is required and in my case it still has the 'temporary' shock-cord tensioner (about the 3rd one now!!) I must look into trying to fit a spring from the old throttle body but i don't know if that would work being the opposite operation, could i just flip the spring over and attach to the bottom, who knows!!??
