=================

Hi Guys

I thought i'd make a section in here for information on what to do when you service your C, Everything from head to toe,

I will edit the thread from time to time to make a check list for "all models and a further list for the different models, E.g VR6, G60, 16v Etc.

May even go as far as part numbers, well see how we get on.

This thread is a guide only, and is intended to aid Diy servicing only, what you do to your car is at your own risk. The information below is correct to the best of our knowledge at the time of viewing, Contents is subject to change at any time.

A couple of questions relating to this thread if I may?

I thought that there was no service interval for the Fuel Filter,I've just changed mine though (bolts were rusty etc).I have heard differing opinions about Gearbox oil change as again I believe that it is meant to be kept from original.I think there is a bleed nipple or something similar to release the fluid but it does get too hot so should not lose its properties i.e. viscosity etc???

Just had a tensioner changed on mine as the old one was whining like a nagging wife, you certainly know when its on the way. That's the problem with spring loaded tensioners though, pressure placed on the component at all times and therefore subject to replacement...

Just my 2p guys, very thorough intro though G60Jet

And to save confusion on the VR6 oil filter, as there are 3 different types, the attached pic might help. I believe all ABV engines have a non-return valve type filter. I've bought the wrong one twice now as I keep forgetting, so this will be a permanent reminder!

Replace Fuel Filter every (30,000miles ???)

As a newbie to Cs and, almost certainly, a thickie, too, where can i find the fuel filter on my 95 VR6 (97k)?

Any difficulties in getting to it and removing it?

Ta in advance for any help, guyz.

Correct - there is no service interval but when I worked for VW, we used to change them every 2 years.

Gearbox oil change
Fully synthetic oil - leave alone. Maybe worth changing every 10 years or so.

Not 100% sure on the VR but usually I would expect to find it under the car next to the OSR wheel. Plan to replace any hoseclips (use only steel jubilee clips) & rubber mounting bobbins

That's precisely where it is. You can see a large silver can when you crouch down on the floor and look underneath. If you use fuel additives on a regular basis, change the filter annually as some additives are quite harsh and gum up the filter element.

Another word of warning, if you ever use fuel injector cleaner - change your engine oil shortly afterwards as fuel injector cleaner will contaminate your oil.

P.S. I've added some pertinent stuff to the 'VR6 only' section above

As for injector cleaner. Redex is good if merely to use as an upper cylinder lubricant but that stuff doesn't mess up the engine oil if used in the right quantity.

I did try some silly octane booster my Subaru mate gave me and it was like treacle and turned my piston crowns and valves rusty red......so be warned!

VW historically do not endorse any kind of additive, so tread carefully.

Your friendly local stealer will be able to help you out. If you have a VR it needs about 3 bottles of it and it's about £10ish a pop!

It may well be worth considering joining the official VW Corrado Club of GB as you get The Sprinter magazine which has helpful tips on how to fix/maintain your C and it gets you a discount (usually 10%) at the stealer too. All for a bargain £15. It'll certainly save you many times that in discounts :)
