steveo29 0 Posted December 28, 2005 okay ive seen all the threads about oil coolers and how i should i have one a few questions.. i do alot of shorter journeys where the car only just gets to temp, i dont wwant a set up that stops the oil getting up to a useable temp quickly..what ones have a proper stat that will allow it to heat well and where do you fit them...i have a fmic
Guest Posted December 28, 2005 Oil coolers haave stat built into the sandwich plate(sandwich plate takes place of existing water cooler) Being honest, mine doesn't heat up that quickly.. I only got mine because once warm you get scary temperatures 100+ You can mount the cooler pretty much anywhere if the pipes are long enough. Where exisiting intercooler was for example
Neil VR6 0 Posted December 28, 2005 Temps above 100 aren't a cause for concern. Temps above 120 are though! Mine goes up to about 108 on the motorway at 80mph which isn't too much to worry about and I run a small cooler.
_leon_ 0 Posted December 28, 2005 is that after an oil cooler being fitted? I get that @ same speed on long runs with the std cooler...
Guest Posted December 28, 2005 Neil G60, Thats pretty hot mate.. Mine is runing a 13 row mocal iirc and temps at 80 are around 80deg C Tempartures are very dependant on how you drive though :D I still see 110 line.. but have to be very naughty. steveo29 0 Posted December 28, 2005 is 80 hot enough???
Guest Posted December 28, 2005 I'm quiet happy driving along with oil temps at 80deg.. but it comes down to what you feel comfortable with and what you think will preserve your engine the longest.
_leon_ 0 Posted December 28, 2005 doesnt a themostat work these coolers - so G60Dub, what temp does your kick in? I think I can remember 90degrees being the standard for the 13rack ones like in your picture??
Guest Posted December 28, 2005 Its a 70 Stat.
_leon_ 0 Posted December 28, 2005 thats good and low then - was that a choice you made yourself to get a 70 stat?
Guest Posted December 28, 2005 _leon_, No, Its what Darren @ G-Werks suppied with the kit. The kit really is for the summer. It'll run at 90 at 80mph in the sun. Winter does cool it alot more.
_leon_ 0 Posted December 28, 2005 ah, of course - that makes a lot of sense. Did you install it yourself? I am after one in the new year
Guest Posted December 28, 2005 _leon_, First time round no. I had to change bits over though to the new Corrado. I fitted it then. Quiet easy to do, however I did use Darrens 90deg air drill to get the holes in the right place.

W3RKD 0 Posted December 28, 2005 the stats that we supply in our kits are 80*deg if you go bigger than a 15row 115 cooler you will have some issues in getting the oil warm enough in the sort of weather we are experiancing at the moment espically on cars with the bigger rads
Guest Posted December 28, 2005 g-man, ha I must need a new stat
