Strange surging feeling

Recommended Posts

When i drive along slowly it feels like the car is surging slightly. As if it tries to accelerate but then backs off. Hard to explain really.

Where should i start looking to sort this?

Im wondering if a good service will sort it out, or i need to set it up correctly?

if it needs setting up is it the same principle as 1.8 16v kr engines?

thanks

I wouldn't expect so. The control pressure on the 1.8 and 2.0 16v engines is regulated differently for a start.

Mine appears to do quite the opposite - cruising down the m/way at 85ish and the speed will slowly start to drop without me moving my foot. Then a few seconds later it will just take off and surge right back up to the speed I was doing (it's a good feeling but surely can't be good for the car)

Does it most often after heavy rain.

Any ideas anyone??

what your engine mounts like? mine feels a bit like this at very low speed and as far as i can tell its the mounts being a bit sloppy. planning on changing them shortly so ill keep you updated.

In my case;

The engine is smooth. idles fine and revs freely. its not missing.

the feeling is almost as if some one is applying the handbrake very slightly then releasing it. (prob those squirrels again).

i dont think the brakes are warped or seized but will check that soon.

the mounts on mine are solid as were changed by previouse owner recently.
