toolbrkr 0 Posted March 21, 2006 Ok, we just picked up a 91 g60. Needs some work all around, but a nice interior and solid motor, transmission, nice original BBS's. Drives ok around town till you hammer the brakes after a high speed run. Brakes pulsate (no ABS) then the pedal softens, then drops to floor. A quick pump brings them back, but a little scary for a 16 year old having his "first" driving experience. Thanks Dave :?
quicky1980 0 Posted March 22, 2006 if its not abs then i would guesse the breaks are warped. the pedal dropping to the floor seems to be with the servo, possible that one of the seals inside keeps moving out of position when your breaking hard. I suggest you take it to a mechanic if you dont know whats wrong. as breaks are v important to get right.
toolbrkr 0 Posted March 22, 2006 Thanks, I like the servo idea. I had kind of thought that myself, but wanted another unbiased opinion. Unfortuanately for me, I am the "mechanic". I'm well versed in most american iron, and Mercedes 123 series. The G60 is new to me, but VW is not, had a 77 Rabbit(golf), an 80 Scirocco S, 90 Jetta 16V, and currently a 2003 Jetta TDI. I'm going to go over the whole brake system, I agree that they are very important. We have a lot of other things to sort out, body work too, but this will get done first. If you want to see what we've gotten into, take a look at US ebay #8041515759 Thanks Dave
StuartFZR400 0 Posted March 22, 2006 For peice of mind, with your capabilities, it'd be nice to overhaul the brakes. I mean drop out the fluid and everything; replace discs and pads as a set if anything is wrong with them. ebay hey?VW VOLKSWAGEN RACING LANYARD KEY RING? toolbrkr 0 Posted March 22, 2006 Whups! Ebay # should have been 4612281503, my bad. I actually didn't buy the car, my son's stepdad helped him find it based on my admiration of the Corrado's design. I'm not sure its the one I would have picked, but we'll make the best of it. Overall it runs and drives very well. I've ordered all new brake components, discs, pads, pins etc. I'll purge out fluid and refill. We'll see how it goes. Thanks again. Dave
