was8v 0 Posted May 18, 2006 I've just taken delivery of 4x 5L of GM / Vauxhall 10w40 semi synth from this guy: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 4632761816 Oil has the same specs as synta silver, in fact the GM oil comes in the same bottles (but blue and without quantum moulding), smells the same, looks the same colour and tastes the same as synta silver. I suspect it IS synta silver....but at £38 delivered for 20L its a darn site cheaper that £17 for 5l from VW and having to go pick it up. Maybe he'll do a group buy...........(I didnt really taste it)

was8v 0 Posted May 18, 2006 isnt synta £10 with discount? been a while sinse i brought any Ah the mythical (to my dealer) discount...Last time I paid just under £17 GSF sell Synta don't they? Only if you go and pick it up....which is a helluva round trip for some :| Just thought the info may be useful!
dr_mat 0 Posted May 18, 2006 Yep, I'm sure VW use the same OEM for their oils as several car manufacturers. And no doubt VW are one of the most expensive, too ..! Yes, most dealership discounts are mythical. My local one won't entertain a discount, either. We have two GSF outlets in Reading, for some completely unknown reason. Supercharged 2 Posted May 18, 2006 I noticed Tesco sell some stuff in the same plastic Castrol bottles as Synta but i'm still getting the real thing from VAG for about the same price...
olly elworthy 0 Posted May 19, 2006 no point scrimping on oil, its like blood for your engine,, synta is only £11 + vat for 5 litres from gsf anyhow,,,
craigowl 0 Posted May 19, 2006 My 5 litres of Synta silver from my local VAG dealer cost £15.32 a month ago with CCGB 10% discount. Trouble is after many years and takeovers they are now Honda dealers.
was8v 0 Posted May 19, 2006 no point scrimping on oil, its like blood for your engine,, synta is only £11 + vat for 5 litres from gsf anyhow,,, Brrrrrm, there is no scrimping going on - my point is that the GM oil is probably the same as synta - it certainly meets the same specs - 10w40 semi synthetic ACEA A2 / A3 spec so why pay more?! Each to their own I guess.
diggerbucket 0 Posted May 21, 2006 If you want Synta silver delivered from GSF all you have to do is ask them, it's not listed on the site but they will do it if you add it in the comments box on your order
bristolbaron 10 Posted May 21, 2006 my local stealers has been doing 25% off oils for ages now, it makes it slightly cheaper than GSF here.
steveo29 0 Posted May 29, 2006 my dealer quoted £37 for a 25l drum of silver....says its castrol oil
Supercharged 2 Posted May 29, 2006 steveo29, Yeah but you'll find they will do 5x5 ltrs for the same price and you don't need the pump... Depends what is easier but I like to have the containers for the waste oil...
steveo29 0 Posted May 29, 2006 didnt know that steve..yeah that sure i easier to store that way too
cymru-corrado 0 Posted May 29, 2006 pointless fact, all are oil has gone up lately Quantam pd is like £38 for 5litres. GSF bought the last batch off us at old price so they must have had a spy on the lookout. VW do recommend Castrol oil as well, all the fleet cars used to have a service pouch with them which had Castrol and not Synta.
