Quickest car you've been in, owned and most interesting....

Recommended Posts

Quickest car i've been in has to be a Radical SR3, went in it at Brands, castle combe and Snetterton with the later being the quickest at 163mph, being so low it felt like 180mph!

Went in a F355 but the bloke whoe owned it drove like a bit of a girl so didnt feel particuarly fast + i'd previouly been in the radical and a westfield which was also crazy

My mates Pulsar GTI R is pretty nippy as well being 400bhp, not very reliable but fast when it is all on song.

Fastest car i've owed is my VR6 to date.

Phil - I was impressed with the Boxter, although most people say its too basic inside. I hate most modern cars for thier interior; too much plastic. Im excited at the thought of the 911. On a small note, I had a Carrera GT blat past me the other day - I bet thats a hoot - it sounded lovely.

I'm sure you will be impressed by the Porsche, not just by the performance and handling but also by the refinement for such a performance orientated car.

As for the R1, I bet its cool too. Ive been on the Fireblade and it opened my eyes to a different world. I know low speed stuff can do big damage if you come off; its all about not hitting solid objects. I was very lucky not to loose a foot when a bike landed on me (@ 10mph); the silencer stopped it. Doesnt put me off - I gotta live.

Been in a F355 round a track but the quickest would have to be my dad's friend's old Lotus 7, he built the kit and rather than dropping the 1400 twin cam in, he decided to put a Rover 3.6 V8 in it. Still unhappy with performance he got Janspeed to turbocharge it twice! Spun the wheels to 100, 0-60 under 3 seconds, handled like a bag of shite, extremely hot foot wells (he had to wear special shoes) and very scary.

And I would think my G40 is quicker than my VR aswell.

Just been reminded of another I had a ride in by someone elses Porker comments. An old Scooby mate who's business was doing rather well traded up to a RUF 996 Twin Turbo pushing 585bhp and 590ftlb. When he floored it from 130 it felt like my Scoob does from standstill, hitting over 180 in under 5 secs until he bottled it at 190. I was gutted we didn't hit the magical 200 :( Don't see so much of him now so I doubt I'll ever get a second chance.

I've got a family member whos very involved with these guys

noble-m12gto.jpg

Does the engine side of things for the new cars, So obviously blagged a few rides in one, properly fast. Admittedly you can get fast hatch's and saloons, but a proper sportscar chassis jsut takes it to the next level.

Been in a few caterhams which altough not particularly fast on paper, again give that fast feeling.

Mates got a 16v G60 mk1 golf which is pretty hairy, considering how small it is.

Also did a rally school type thing, got to the end of the day, thought i was doing ok, felt pretty confident and fast.

Instructor took me out in Group N Scooby on a gravel stage, fast on tarmac is all well and good but until you've tried it, you have no idea how skillfull a godo rally driver is.

Fastest car Ive owned... Well I havent owned anything that is anything more than a cheap small engined family hatchback, so I wont insult you!

Driven - The ol' mans 5.7 corvette powered 1936 Ford

just curious but why use a chevy engine instead of keeping it all ford... i would have thought to use a terminator engine... (i.e. from a 2003 and 2004 Mustang Cobra) see page 3 to see the car they were put in... here's an engine shot from my car when it was stock

DSC01611.jpg

i figured if he's running a vette engine it's probably a newer one to make it worth while eh? so if that's the case he's probably still running some sort of engine management...

please don't get offended by this i am just curious, if you come back i would like to know what engine he actually put in the 36... LS6? LS2? would be quite amazed if it had an LS7 i'm not gonna lie...

The Chevy engines look a lot nicer and parts are well cheap. Not many people use Ford engines. It's an old 50/60's engine. You go for looks rather the economy in a hot rod. If you open the bonnet and see a load of wires it kinda ruins it.

Fastest car I've owned is my G40.

So your G40 is faster than your Vr6, interesting.

What spec is your G40?

Stage 4 charger (rebuilt by PSD)

Toothed belts

GT Inlet manifold

PSD front mount

PSD Injectors

PSD stage 5 remap

Stand alone oil supply for charger

Boost return removed

Jabba Induction kit

Spec should be somewhere between 160 - 180 bhp. Car weighs 750kgs.

fastest car ive been in...probably my mates supercharged 306 gti6 (391 bhp). It's quite insane. Although another friend has a GT-Four which is currently undergoing quite a major power hike.

Fastest ive owned would have to be my old metro gti (125bhp by the time i got rid of it). I was quite dissappointed when i realised that my corrado wasnt as quick to 60 as the old tin can.

fastest thing i've driven is probably this bugger... nothing this heavy deserves to be able to go that fast:

Bentley Arnage

fastest owned is probably the VR... conservative me thinks i'll get into trouble otherwise.

most interesting driven & owned however, (and easily among the slooooowest) has to be one of these two...

been a passenger in most Porsches inc. 996 Turbo, 996 GT2, 996 GT3, 996 GT3 RS and best of all a Carrera GT. The GT was awesome and we hit 165 and never made it into top gear... loved it

fastest car I've driven would be a 996 too but top speed I've done is in my C

fastest I've owned is my little old unmodded vr - bless!

Been in - my bro's old 5.0l chimera with a few trick bits on it. 400 bhp in about 1100 kg's!!! Fookin quick and a wee bit scary through the corners!!

Owned - my Rado VR with Sschrick inlet and cams.

Most interesting - I have been out in the original Aston Martin Lagonda prototype in the 70s. Completely mad space ship of a car that was about 20 years ahead of its time. Also went out in the prototype Aston Virage - pretty shite actually. I've also been out in '7 EXY' which as a mental AM V8 Vantage that had been bored and played with - the most beastly car in the world without doubt! I remeber Victor Gauntlet starting it up and giving it a few revs in one of the AM warehouses. Never seen a car rock so much on sheer torque! Awesome. And finally I was taken out in a Metro 6R4 back in the Group B days. Holy Cow!!!! :)

okay,

quickest, in no particular order ........ a single seater at brands, a tweaked lotus elise, a breathed on R5 gt turbo that I once owned and blew up almost weekly, the bmw 'M' 635csi when they first came out, and the latest big volvo estate comlete with blue lights and sirens to assist in 'making progress' :))))

quickest I've owned, tweaked R5 GT turbo, escort Mk 2 RS2000, escort Mk 1 Mexico, oh yeah and my C

most interesting, a series 2 land rover soft top that I fitted an XR4i V6 into. it drank like a fish, was slow as chuff, but sounded ace and ALWAYS brought a smile to my face.

I never got to drive the M6 as it was my bosses :( I was about 19 at the time (so I drove like a numbnutz) and there was NO WAY he was letting me behind the wheel.

I just vividly remember being awestruck at the road holding and power.

Had a drive in my Dad's RS6, that's insanely quick but you just don't feel it until you notice stuff going past really quick! Think my bro's T350 is quicker, but only if its a perfectly dry day or you just can't get the power down.

Well the nicest car I've been in is a Ferrari 550 Maranello. Before I had opened the door for the first time, I had always thought they were a lot of money for what they were. However once you've sat inside one, you understand where all the money goes... there is an instant "atmosphere" inside the car.

From the perspective of this forum, probably the most interesting car I've been in was as a passenger in Ken Lark's VW Cup Corrado VR6 at Snetterton about 5 years ago. Noisy, bumpy and actually it didn't feel that fast, but when we overtook a Ferrari F360 (which was going as fast as it could) around the outside at Coram in the wet I could see where the performance came from! Absolutely magnificent !

Do bikes count? :-P If so, I tested a ZX-12R last year, at the time was the fastest production road bike. 178bhp and 98ft lb  , derestricted would do 200mph. Good fun, though wasn't what I was after at the time, maybe next bike though 8)

If not, fastest car I've been in is probably my uncle's XKR. I sat in an F40 once, but it wasn't going anywhere, and I did used to get taken around in various special lotus's and scoobys when I had a job washing them back in the day.

Most interesting is a good question though, I'd have to say the aircooled VW's tbh, not very rare, but certainly had some interesting experiences!
