i have one question, im looking at getting a corrado project car, im just wondering has anybody every tried or thought about trying to fit a chevy small block v8 in a rado???

is this gonna be for every day use? what sort of power out put?? does tuning a original engine not appeal?

sorry i didnt really give much detail. i have a vr6 corrado as an every day car.

ive just always thought a v8 would be awesome in a rado, and now ive got some spare funds i thought it might be fun. im not sure about power yet. but if i can fit a v8 under the bonnet i think i will do it.

 

also if no one has done it, does anyone know if it would fit?

 

any info would be helpful.

The problem's will arise in that narrow-block V8s are generally transverse and marry up to driveshafts for a RWD car.

However, if you can fit a V8 in an MX5, I'm sure it could be done in the Corrado.

You have an unused transmission tunnel, so you probably could RWD the Corrado at the same time, just to be more unique ;)

 

Narrow, eg. Rover V8s are grunt, not speed, so oodles of torque, but only 150bhp. But, being the favourites of the Yanks, mod-a-plenty to get serious power out of pretty much any V8 design can be got ;)

Putting a V8 in and rear wheel drive is going to be a lot of work. Fitting a twin turbo R32 and rallye/syncro 4x4 system would be a better option probably.

i was going to go for rwd, my main concern is being able to fit it under the bonnet because i wanna keep the stock look.

but as you say if you can fit one in an mx5, it should be ok in a rado.

Cool idea mate. Chevy lump's gonna be a bit heavy though is it not? Fast as fek in a straight line though!

The Rover V8 engine would be a better bet, it's much lighter than a cast iron 4, and even a 3.5 can put out 200hp/200ft/lbs in EFi form, new/ rebuilt ones are going (fairly) cheap at the moment as there is glut of them out there, 3.5, 3.9 4.2 even a few 4.6.

 

The downside is that there is no room to fit one transversely (I measured when my VR6 engine blew !), so it's rear wheel drive I'm afraid which would make it a V. complicated project (4 motion rear axle/ R380 box ???), with lots of metal bashing to do to get the clutch housing & box into the transmission tunnel. :(

its a black vr on coilovers. when i start this project i will probably sell it and get a 16v as my run daily driver.

There is a mk2 about with a cosworth engine and runing gear. It may be worth finding that to look at the rebuilt fire wall and tranny tunnel.

Judging by the tight fit the VR is under the bonnet, I'd imagine you'd need to do a fair amount of chassis work to get a V8 under there.

 

Mounting it transversely would be the only way to get the engine in and power the rear wheels, but you'd need to seriously modify the centre tunnel at the bulkhead end in order to fit the gearbox in and weld in, or make up from scratch, a new boot floor to accomodate a diff.

 

But as they say, anything is possible - how much time and money do you have?
