craigowl 0 Posted October 12, 2006 Yesterday, bill for parts and labour from my local favourite small garage who charges £41 incl VAT/hour. £82 To supply and fit new outer CV boot/rebuild and test. (Peug 205). Only took 1.5 hours for labour. Not bad. They give you a lift, too. A few weeks ago they won a Bosch award, their workshop and yard are immaculate. Just now you have to wait a week to get in with a non urgent repair. They told me they have been hunting high and low for another mechanic but have not got one yet they like. Owner/Manager is very fussy and meticulous as is young service manager if you fancy applying. I have been going there for about 15 years.
jezzaG60 0 Posted October 14, 2006 They should charge more to deal with Walesy Cheeky git ! :) I'm their favourite Welsh customer i'll have you know! And yeah RKE = RK Engineering in St Agnes, they charge less than any of the other prices mentioned and do a fecking good job while they're at it! Technically speaking Walesy... your our only welsh customer. That means that you are both our favourite and least favourite customer all in one! Just for you mate we will make a special forum hourly rate of £35.... a bargain don't you think!!! (wow being in cornwall really sucks) Maybe i should start sorting out some sort of holiday/servicing combo cos i think at £28/hr most of you peeps could drive down here, have a stay and repairs and still pay less than your local places!!!! cymru-corrado 0 Posted October 15, 2006 VW charging me £110 for 10 mins programming a key + £50 for the blank. fair play you were robbed there, a new flip key including blade, transmitter and coding should be around £160 all in.
Jay2 0 Posted October 16, 2006 Maybe we should have a league table as a permanent site on the forum so that people can compare labour rates? I know it will depend on location but might be handy for finding smaller VW specialists or garages that know their V Dubs. My problem is that how much are the mechanics on? For example if I pay £50 phr for work on my car, how much of that is for the guy doing the work or the person sat in the nice warm office answering the phone? At the end of the day all I want is quality workmanship and good service, is that too much to ask? Anybody work in a garage or dealership with some insider info?
