Crasher 3 Posted October 15, 2006 Either or more depending on what horrors are found when you get in there but the 4 hour quote is living in the land of the fairies and is direct from the ELSA self generating labour times and based on a brand new car with zero miles. Even the £1200 quote is optimistic and won't cover the timing chain problems that they are bound to discover. Also, if you remove a VR6 head, it is lunacy not to change the exhaust valves and guides, replace the lifters etc etc. By the time you add it all together, £2900 odd for a complete new engine begins to sound good, until you add the labour and parts required. popper 0 Posted October 17, 2006 I had my headgasket done a few months back by a guy in stoke, I only paid £400 and that was including lifters, seals etc. Mine had already had recent timing chains mind. I would thouroughly recommend this guy as he really knows his VW's, and is very reasonably priced. Let me know if you want his number.
