Buzzing from clocks when lights are on.

Recommended Posts

Hi all.

When I have the headlights or sidelights on there is a slight buzzing/whining noise coming from the clocks. When you turn down the brightness of the lights on the clocks using the headlight switch rotory thing, then the volume of buzz goes down but turn the brighness up and it's back.

Anyone had this before? I'm assuming it's got something to do with the bulbs/lighting circuit, but I've never taken the clocks out before...

Any ideas???

my 93 VR does exactly the same thing! yeah as you say, turn the brightness down then up and it goes for a bit but then comes back!

I only notice it because i turn the lights on before i put the stereo on.

Do you not think its coming from the actual headlight switch itsself?

yeah, i have this problem too, but mine is because of the DDI guages that ive fitted, the resistor/transformer thing that comes with it makes a buzzing sound. maybe you should pull the headlight switch out and try and listen to where the sound is coming from exactly...

If you've got EL gauges then there will be a slight buzzing, otherwise it sounds like something trying to make a proper contact. Might help to take the clocks out and see that the dash bulbs are properly seated.

The fact that it disappears when you hit it suggests something is loose. Take the clocks out for a butchers mate, its easy to do.
