Stan 24v 0 Posted October 26, 2006 Ive had some screeching lately, mainly when cold/damp, from under the bonnet. It sounds like a belt slipping. Also, the last few days Ive had the oil light, battery light come on, and the power steering go heavy but the engine stays running. Then all goes back to normal, then it may happen again a little later and so on. Now Im assuming the alternator belt is slipping and needs replacing?? Or could it be the tensioner?? I do think it needs regreasing anyway but I just wanted some advice first. Anyone?
Crasher 3 Posted October 26, 2006 Does this happen only when the weather is wet?

davidwort 0 Posted October 27, 2006 VW's have rubbish ancilliary tensioners, my golf 4 16v one makes odd squeaking noises mainly when cold and my neighbours Sharan sounded mental until he had the tensionner replaced. You'll only quieten them down for a short time if you try to lubricate them. The old V belts seem more reliable
Stan 24v 0 Posted October 27, 2006 Well Ive ordered a new belt which I'll change over the weekend and see if it cures it.
