nocrap 0 Posted November 5, 2006 Evening all, I changed the oil on my car yesterday and found that the unit thats on top of where the filter screws into was leaking oil. Was talking to Supercharged before who said that they often fail and that i might be able to get rid of it. If this is correct how do i go about it, what bits do i need?? Thanks in advance....... flusted 0 Posted November 5, 2006 is the oil leaking into the water system? if you just have a leak in that area, its prob the rubber seal between the exchanger and housing
nocrap 0 Posted November 5, 2006 As far as i'm aware there isn't, so thats a solution.....but what about removing the thing completely?
Crasher 3 Posted November 8, 2006 Don't remove it or your oil will get too hot, just replace the upper "O" ring 038 117 070 A, about £3 from the dealer.
Yandards 0 Posted November 8, 2006 Don't remove it or your oil will get too hot, just replace the upper "O" ring 038 117 070 A, about £3 from the dealer. It also ensures that your water warms up quickly too - that's one reason why 80's and early 90's dubs have really good heaters.

bloodredVR 0 Posted November 13, 2006 Can someone please confirm that the heat exchanger will unscrew from the holder, or do I have to take the whole thing off the side of the crankcase Cheers
Supercharged 2 Posted November 13, 2006 It should be held on by a nut i think under the oil filter - will be a AF size Then should just slide off the bar...
bloodredVR 0 Posted November 13, 2006 Sounds simple, I'll give it a go tomorrow, then maybe the oil will stay with the oil, and the water will stay with the water!! Cheers
Supercharged 2 Posted November 13, 2006 Cool - are you changing it for a new cooler? I ask because you need 2 mk1 water pipes if not and a shorter thread for the oil filter to go on... I have a nut off mine in the garage, will go and measure it for you...
Supercharged 2 Posted November 13, 2006 Yeah, it's 1" 1/16th (but 27mm should do)
