claire.major 0 Posted November 25, 2006 Right, I need to change the water pump on the G60 today. Ive searched on the site for details on what to do etc (remove charge and alternator then move PAS pump out of way) but I just wanted to check if there is anything else I need to bear in mind? Any hints or links to a guide would be ideal. Will the timing need doing? When buying the water pump should I buy anything else (Nuts, bolts, seals etc?) Thanks so much
kongo127 0 Posted November 25, 2006 My advise is to buy the complete water pump (body included). The original bolts will brake when you attempt to get them off! Also replace the thermostat and o´rings.
Henny 0 Posted November 29, 2006 also buy the plastic housing from the bottom of the waterpump... it WILL crack if you try to use the original one again...

Riley 0 Posted May 7, 2007 (edited) As well as the above... Why are there 2 different water pump part numbers listed on etka? 037121010C And 037121010BX Exchange? Edited January 22, 2015 by Riley
Supercharged 2 Posted May 7, 2007 X just means exchange - thats the one you want about £25 The is a T shaped bolt that does thru the spare hole in the pump and into the lower cambelt cover but you don't need to remove the cover.... I think there is a metal gaurd between the pump and the intermediate shaft pulley that you have to be careful you don't distort (this can happen with pattern waterpumps as the casting is not as exact) VW parts have a 2 year warranty - when you say it's gone how do you know?? be interesting to see how it's failed... Riley 0 Posted May 7, 2007 (edited) Thanks m8, Cool, may just! still be under warranty then! Its throwing water out from the valve just above a core plug type bit on the bottom of the pump... :( Its like a little channel just under where the shaft sticks out. Remember the t shaped bolt head now, fiddly little sh|t to get too... Neil. Edited January 22, 2015 by Riley
Henny 0 Posted May 11, 2007 yup, that's the internal relief valve on the pump... it's designed to fail here if it goes wrong... 8)
Supercharged 2 Posted May 14, 2007 Ah ok, maybe a sheared impeller then or duff thermostat??
Henny 0 Posted May 15, 2007 nah, it's the seal that's gone if it's leaking from there... if it was a sheared impellor you'd know 'cos the engine'd be trying to melt itself adn a duff thermostat would either make the engine run cold or always hot depending on which way it was stuck...
