I've bought an S3 / The S3 Thread

Recommended Posts

There's some place offering a 'stage 2 kit' which consists of remap, exhaust, intake, etc. They claim 95 bhp over the standard 210 model.

I guess it's bull though. I am very new to the world of S3's.

Anyone know where i can find any web pages with standard spec, options, specs, etc please? Going to see a couple tomorrow.

Lee - you've had/got an s3 and a 4motion right? How do they compare standard? Handling and power/speed wise. Is the golf less sporty and more boat like or not mate?

Get yourself on Audi-sport.net . I've got an S3 and driven a couple of 4motions, the golf feels more refined and it smoother to drive. The S3 is more raw and noiser on the motorway. The S3 is more exclusive and miles faster for £500. Handling wise there both dreadful as standard. Stage 1 on an S3 with give you 265bhp. Stage 2 gives you 280bhp but you'll need, FMIC, uprated DV, exhaust, sports cats, 4bar FPR and possibly a downpipe to get it. That little lot will swallow £2k, but should get 330lbft!! My advise is get a set of H&R anti-roll bars on it before anything else, they really need them. Alot if people fit R32 arb's but its a bit of a pikey solution IMO and improvement is nowhere near as dramatic as the H&R kit. Sort the handling and its a decent car, if only it had the VR soundtrack!!

Funny how a lot of people have gone toward the S3 and the LCR isn't considered - OK I know it's still only fwd but having owned mine for 4 months I can't fault the performance and handling for a reliable, modern daily hack!

AFAIK The front suspension etc is S3 derived while the back end is more mk4 Golf - either way I'm shredding tyres and loving the experiance 8)

Thinking about going for a stage 1 chip at some point but needing to save cash for the house at the moment...

I know what you mean, I used to own one but found it so bloody boring to drive! The car has no soul, yeah its quick, looks good and has a boot but thats all it has going for it. The recaros are great, but they sit too high, the servicing prices and general wear and tear repair prices are just ridiculous and it has the dynamics of a sponge pudding thats been left in the sun for a week. Its just a really dull car, even with a remap (although the shove in the back is addictive). Thats why I went for the TT (not needing a boot), I understand its that same car under the skin but its a much more pleasent car to sit in and drive.

I've Not ever driven a corrado I'm not sure how it compares but I'm sure the Corrado's a more exciting drive.

The other problem is that apart from the LCR their is nothing else out there really, unless you want a ricey type R.

well if you dont need a boot the options are endless. if you dont need a boot you are more likely to have 2 cars... like i said above i'm going for a boring and cheap shopping car and an elise for proper driving...

I've been thinking about that quote I posted......

Isn't it actually 58 minutes to save the earth, rather than 36 hours? :)

Someone tell me or I'm going to have to go and hire the film - it's driving me mad! :)

congrats on the purchase. I looked at a few cars from fontain before getting mine privately.

I didnt realise they did any face lift cars on a X plate?? thought the earliest ones were 2001 Y plates just before the 51 plate switch.

Oh and just so you know leather was standard (the alcantara trim was a no cost option)... but the sunroof is a very rare £800 option and a nice thing to have (i have it on mine)
