GazzaG60 0 Posted January 12, 2007 i got 2 x 50ftx2 in rolls for around 75 dollars from summit racing. id get 1x 2in and 1x 1in to cover all. should be enough. get some wrap spray too to seal it up. dampen the wrap so that it doesn't send clouds of fibre off. wrap it and dry. 2 coats of spray are about right. Tempest 0 Posted January 12, 2007 Personally not a big fan of exhaust wrap, as it can trap humidity, leading to corrosion. There are special metal ties for exhaust wrap. Try place like Rallyenuts etc. Tempest
GazzaG60 0 Posted January 12, 2007 it is hard to get the benifit out of headers and in particular SS ones with out it though. corrosion aint too much of an issue either with SS
KADVR6 0 Posted January 12, 2007 cheers guys, is this wrap any good, seems to cheap (which normally means its crap) http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Exhaust-Heat-Wrap ... 0070739231 karl
GazzaG60 0 Posted January 12, 2007 5metres sounds a lot but it aint. i reckon on 30-60 metres needed for the job. depending on how easy it is to wrap and the bore of the pipes. my snake turbo manifold fore the 16v took around 35m of 2in to finish. Crasher 3 Posted January 12, 2007 Wear a mask or your will have a sore throat for days. I have just wrapped a downpipe for a Mk1 racer and I am still itching. I use a hot air gun to speed up the drying but the smoke that comes off the wrap is evil. Make sure you thoroughly wet the wrap with VHT paint when it is fully dry. The main reason for the paint is to prevent the wrap absorbing oil which can then become a serious fire hazard as the wrap acts as a wick. Due to this, exhaust wrap has apparently been banned in some racing categories.
