thetino 0 Posted February 17, 2007 Been owning and driving Dubs since passing my test 15 years ago, but all have been rod change gearboxes. Anyway, we recently picked up our VR6, and find it difficult to engage 1st. It seems to be an adjustment issue, because if you push the gearlever hard to the left, it goes in easily. Should I be looking at a new cable, or adjustment? I did a search last night, but couldn't find anything.
Tekara 0 Posted February 17, 2007 Do you have any issues engaging the other gears, including reverse.
thetino 0 Posted February 17, 2007 Nope. Like I say, if I push the gearlever far enough to the left, like right against the stop, it will slide into 1st nice and easily
Mave 0 Posted February 17, 2007 The circlip has probably broken off.
thetino 0 Posted February 17, 2007 could you tell me where I would find this circlip? Is it an easy to do job on the ground, or does iit need to be up on a ramp?
Toad 0 Posted February 18, 2007 it's under the gear lever gaitor, on the left hand side of the shaft the gear stick movess back and forth on.
tonedef 9 Posted February 20, 2007 Mine was lousy going into 1st, I often had to select 2nd and then have another try. Anyway, I was looking at buying a short shift kit and read the section about adjustment on the diesel geek website: http://www.dieselgeek.com/A3B4Corrvr6sidetoside.htm Didn't buy the kit but followed the adjustment procedure and and now it's sweet 8)
thetino 0 Posted February 20, 2007 Excellent, I'll try that! Thanks for the link. Lifted the gear console, but the clip was there intact. Gonna try an adjustment o'er the weekend
