Difficulty engaging 1st gear

Recommended Posts

Been owning and driving Dubs since passing my test 15 years ago, but all have been rod change gearboxes.

Anyway, we recently picked up our VR6, and find it difficult to engage 1st.

It seems to be an adjustment issue, because if you push the gearlever hard to the left, it goes in easily.

Should I be looking at a new cable, or adjustment?

I did a search last night, but couldn't find anything.

Nope.

Like I say, if I push the gearlever far enough to the left, like right against the stop, it will slide into 1st nice and easily

could you tell me where I would find this circlip?

Is it an easy to do job on the ground, or does iit need to be up on a ramp?

Mine was lousy going into 1st, I often had to select 2nd and then have another try. Anyway, I was looking at buying a short shift kit and read the section about adjustment on the diesel geek website:

Didn't buy the kit but followed the adjustment procedure and and now it's sweet 8)

Excellent, I'll try that! Thanks for the link.

Lifted the gear console, but the clip was there intact.

Gonna try an adjustment o'er the weekend
