iggi 0 Posted February 26, 2007 hi there. my 1.8 valver has developed a slight rattle on idle. like some thing is loose behind the engine, down the bottom somewhere. if i touch the accelerator even a tiny amount it goes away, and i fine when driving. could this be heatshields?? are they able to be removed or is that asking for trouble? also what is the large one that comes down from the firewall to the exhaust maifold for? that is flapping around, seems to have broken loose. but that doesnt stop the rattle no matter what i do with it. can that one be removed safely?? any help please would be appreciated. thanks!! iggi 0 Posted February 27, 2007 yea the guy at local vw specialist suggested that. found the flxible pipe and rusted off bracket from the back of manifold resting on the down pipe b4! but removed this and it still rattles. will get my exhaust geezer to get it on the ramp.
