Andyroo 0 Posted September 19, 2007 Hi folks Last couple of weeks I've noticed a terrible screeching/griding sound coming from the back of the car when I'm reversing. It did it about 6 months ago then just went away but it appears to have come back with a vengence. Anybody got any ideas what might be causing this? Cheers Andy
Jim Bowen 1 Posted September 19, 2007 a bearing or brakes?
Andyroo 0 Posted September 19, 2007 Cheers for that. Had the brakes done a couple of months ago, so I might start by investigating the bearings.
boost monkey 0 Posted September 19, 2007 I'm not sure that the bearings would ONLY screech in reverse, imho you would hear the noise the whole time?
Jim Bowen 1 Posted September 19, 2007 i just guessing, as there isn't much else that moves on the rear i would of thought
dinkus 10 Posted September 19, 2007 I'd wager it's a ceased calliper, but I'd get the wheel off and have a look...
boost monkey 0 Posted September 19, 2007 seized calipers?! on a corrado you say? does that happen?    yeah, ditto dinkus, sounds like a likely culprit.
Supercharged 2 Posted September 19, 2007 Were the rear discs and bearings changed? - Worth checking the play in the bearings - if jap ones from GSF were used then they only last about 6 months tops!! You may have got some rust down between the disc and carrier if the bearings are loose...
vwdeviant 0 Posted September 19, 2007 1-way mice? I'll go with siezed caliper/ cable or cheap bearings.. in that order... Reminds me we're coming up to winter time to re-grease the handbrake cables and check the boots....
Andyroo 0 Posted September 19, 2007 Thanks for all the help guys. Reckon i'll have to nip down to the mechanics with it now as it doesn't sound like it can be fixed with a big hammer! Cheers
