ACHTUNG!!!! G60 owners!

Recommended Posts

Some of you may already know this but it is going to cost me a fortune.

Yesterday evening the bolt holding the bottom pully to the crank snaped!!!

This could mean nackerd crank, pulley and possibly valves in the head!

This could possibly be avoided by odering a new bolt from VW as they

have increased the tensil strengh of this now. If I had replaced this bolt for

a minimal amount it would have saved me what could come up to almost a

grand maybe. More than a new charger!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have only had the car for two fucking DAYS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Any one got any advice or know of a cause for this let me know.

Think I understand that, Nigel :D

okay say the engine threw a con rod or something and thus the crank hit the bottom of the rod and that "locked" the engine as the crank became jammed. the force on the pulleys would be massive, and seeing as the crank pulley is the one that cannot move the bolt is the weakest part or the link between the two.

i'm not saying it wasn't the bolt, but its a strange one.

when i use to to race model boats we often saw engines blow and throwing con rods with some funny outcomes. the worst was a con rod going nearly all the way through the casting.

Cheers steveo29, so do I!!!

G60Jet, I hope that it doesn't have even more internal damage than

predicted. The bolt sent by VW today was the wrong one so I will have to wait till

tomorrow to find out. I have spoken on the phone to Dubsport and Jabbasport, who

both say that this is a common problem.

If I try to look on the bright side. It is an oportunity to clean the whole engine and

re-enamel it. I would also, If I can find the extra money like to fit a cam kit or a

vernier puley, etc! I will probebly not find any extra money but I carn't help looking

at them in the catalogs!

So check your bolts condition! You can see it from the wheel arch.

8vg60, I'm in Oswestry, Shropshire!

I'm thinking if the valves are knackerd then I may as well spend a bit extra and get

a TSR ported, polished and gas flowed head. Is this a good idea, as I want to run a

reliable car? I am thinking of geting standard air box, pulley and chip back on

because I don't know anything about where and who fitted them! The chip I think is

Jabba sport's from around 1999. As for the pulley I have know idea. The pipper

cross air filter makes a horrid noise!! Anyone got any sugestions or ideas for things

to do while the engines in pieces, and the check book's open!!!

dazzyvr6, I think there's also somebody on here with a G60 who is from

Wrexham.

8vg60, Cheers for geting back to me! I am very intrested in geting a ported&

polished head off you. The garage are a bit behind so I'll ring you this evening if they

have managed to asses my head by then. I've been checking them Pirreli's, one

seems to have a little dent on the rim. I doesn't look major and I think that

its okay. But I will get it checked out at a garage. Apart from that there pritty mint.

Fortunatly there was no internal engine damage present. As for the cost I havn't

been in to pay the bill yet. I think that it may be about £300 or there abouts.

They had a few problems setting the timeing as it was not what VW say. This is

either the Jabba sport chip or it may have had a high lift cam fitted at some point.

I will get some pictures of the damaged parts onto this post next week which

would be a fitting end to this story. Picture of Bolt and small bottom pully chewed a

bit.
