nocrap 0 Posted December 21, 2007 Recently when I stop my car (ignition off) it will occasionally do another couple of revs' and I'm unsure as to why, i've been told that this could be a sign of it running rich but the plugs don't seem to indicate this.... Could this also be coupled with the occasional reluctance to start, with the ignition needing to go for a few seconds before the engine catches? Cheers
mattkh 0 Posted December 21, 2007 Hi Check the ignition timing.
nocrap 0 Posted December 22, 2007 mm, too intermittant to be that....if it was a constant issue then yeah, but this really is every now and again say maybe a couple of times a week.
nocrap 0 Posted December 23, 2007 could anyone tell me how the 5th 'cold start' injector is controlled? i.e how it knows to be on or off
mattkh 0 Posted December 23, 2007 could anyone tell me how the 5th 'cold start' injector is controlled? i.e how it knows to be on or off Hi It is controlled by the ignition switch. So it only squirts when you turn the key to crank the engine.
nocrap 0 Posted December 23, 2007 Ah OK, so when the key springs back to normal running position it should then be off?
mattkh 0 Posted December 23, 2007 Hi Yes. But I have heard that you can have a leaky 5th injector which can cause overfuelling.
nocrap 0 Posted December 23, 2007 Great, cheers. that could be a reason for both problems, with the injector leaking causing over fueling and also not always firing on ignition
Jim 2 Posted December 23, 2007 We could really do with a 2.0 16v 'sensor swap a-thon' one day mate. I've suspected i've got a duff 5th injector and/or thermotime switch for ages! Problem is with the cost of the parts from VW its hard to justify changing them unless you're sure they'll do the job!
easypops 8 Posted December 23, 2007 Hi, I was told by a so called vw specialist garage that my 5th injector was faulty(while trying to sort the infamous dodgy idle) and they unplugged it and told me it is not really needed anyway.....and they seem to be right.....that is well over a year ago and it starts first time all the time.....i will eventually get round to replacing it.......maybe

Toad 0 Posted December 24, 2007 I think the 5th injector only sprays for a second or two when it starts when cold. If it's leaking, then unplugging it will not help a great deal. I think I have a spare, and a few 9A sensors knocking around, if you both wanted to converge near here I'd even lend you tools to do the swapping... I thought that might be the case, but it would have been an opportunity to add to the toad-love thread when Jim bent over the bonnet of his car... ;) I'm sure Stu may well have a couple of bits.
