Cheapest VW Quantum Silver 10W/40 price?

Recommended Posts

Can't get through to the dealers!!! :(

So have a quick Q....... I need to do an oil change and I have been offered Castrol GTX high mileage engine oil (15w/40) 5 litres for £11.73 is this a good price?

Just wanted to know how much the VW stuff was?

Cheers

After my local VW dealer messed up ordering a replacement caliper last year, he gave me 5L of Synta Silver for £8! Reckon that must be cost price

More recently they've been charging around £18 with my discount... Need to work that 'guilt trip' angle again!

Castrol is a very good brand. GTX is a bit old school for old school engines.

Apart from Magnatec (why would you want oil clinging to con rods?! ), they don't have any bad products.

Their Edge 10W/60 is incredible stuff for VR6s.

I used to be able to get synta silver for £6.88 5 litres  its gone up a bit now to £9  + vat of course :D if you go to a VW TPS they will sell you 25l drums or even a 250 litre drum :D it works out far cheaper if you have somewhere to store it and you service cars on the side :)

Agree it is a good brand, however Castrol seems to have earned there products a poor rep, by claiming products are synthetic when they are not:

I know this may not be true for all Castrol products etc, makes you wonder why they would want to tarnish there rep?

Prices change daily but currently it's £18.60 + Vat retail and you usually get a free filter etc if you ask, Trade is £9.12 + VAT

Gone are the days of paying a quid a ltr at GTi Inters!

Duly noted for my next oil change. Do you need anything special to buy stuff from them, or can you just walk in off the street?

thought i'd resurrect this thread as there's quite a saving to be made here, here’s a website for the guys in Bletchley blue95 ( :salute: ) used:

http://www.thetradepartsspecialists.co.uk/

And the best bit, they have stores all over the country. Called 2 places, one near where I work and one near where I live. Both quoted £18.62+vat. Just tell them that you normally pick it up for trade price £9.99+vat at the xxx branch and they will match it.

Retail price is shocking!

Can we get other stuff from these? May be cheaper than using the stealer for VAG original parts!
