SR_Neale 10 Posted July 5, 2017 How much did the work cost? Hope you don't mind me asking. Pm me if you don't want to post here. Looking to get the head sorted while its off. Did you have to take the wing off to locate the alarm horn or can it be done with the wing on. Have you tried a different set of clocks to see if it sorts the problem? I have a set you can borrow if you like.
STU175 0 Posted July 5, 2017 You would be best to call john direct to let him advise you. prices and parts availability change with these old cars! I didnt have wing on when i installed siren but should be possible with it on. Thanks for the offer of the clocks i may take you up on that. I was going to investigate wiring first when i take dash out to replace with black one and fix heaterbox as it maybe wiring related i think. Probarly not till it goes off the road for winter tho. Im loving driving it again at the moment so must not take it apart again yet! Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk
SR_Neale 10 Posted July 5, 2017 Well do some of your running in miles to come and try the clocks its a 5 min job to swap and I'm not using them. You gonna change the matrix and re felt the heater pipes while you have the dash out?
STU175 0 Posted July 5, 2017 Thats an idea pm me your postcode so i can see how many miles lol Yes matrix, felt and black dash and rattle fixing. Its started blow pieces of felt all over the place when on and doesnt work very well Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk
mooG60 11 Posted July 5, 2017 thanks its good to here after years of work:thumbleft: I had the supercharger, big valve head and setup done by JMR and cant recommend them enough. I done the rest. I wouldn't say they charge anymore than any other specialist and have never heard a bad word said about him like some of other "specialists". are you looking to have some work done? The car died on me 16 years ago and it got garaged. I'd like to get it running again but I don't know how deep the rabbit hole is going to go. I don't want to spend stupid money on a car that is not worth that much in value. It is a bog standard looking rado and needs money spending externally as well to give it that X-factor look  I spoke with John the other day and he did sound passionate about what he does. He has already been recommended to me several times so I've decide he is the person to use. If I knew that I could get it up running in a reliable state for up to £2000 I would have had it done already but I just don't know the extent of the problems with it at the moment. It will cost £300 to get it down to him for an appraisal. If the news is bad and I'm looking at a huge bill I will not want to go ahead and will be 600 quid out of pocket just to find out. As suggested by others I should take the rocker cover off and try to turn the engine manually to see if it's seized. Or possibly I may try and find some one locally who could appraise it for me. Hopefully I will have some positive news in the near(ish) future. In the meantime enjoy your lovely ride:thumbleft:
STU175 0 Posted November 5, 2017 1400 miles cv joints are knackered again! give up with jr driveshafts is it genuine the way to go or is there another option? also looking to fit some ball joint extenders to correct the angle of the driveshaft due to lowering I'm looking at these from ocd unless anyone has any other options? http://www.onlychargeddubs.co.uk/products/ocd-mk1-2-3-ball-joint-extender-and-tie-rod-flip-kit.html apart from that its running like a dream, nearly run in......
Geeba 0 Posted November 6, 2017 I went for the GKN parts at German and Swedish... used one of Dox's weekend codes as they're pretty expensive. Pretty sure these will be, or as close as you'll get to OE parts. https://www.gsfcarparts.com/439vg0210 (VR6) I also bought the inner GKN boot kit from Euro car Parts Stripped the driveshafts - repainted with Eastwood Chassis Black paint which is the dogs dangles... repacked the inners with grease and new boots/gaskets etc. completely new outers... Obviously not fitted yet as my engine is still in bits but look like new. ;)

I was being a bit stupid there.:bonk: still gonna get the kit anyway if it can only improve the bump steer.

odub 0 Posted November 7, 2017 shame about the cv joints, i've used GKN before and they seemed fine. How many running in miles are you looking to put on the motor?
STU175 0 Posted November 7, 2017 shame about the cv joints, i've used GKN before and they seemed fine. How many running in miles are you looking to put on the motor? Yeah gkn seems to get good reviews ill sort them over the winter. I think jmr said 1500 - 2000 miles so not many more. Finally going in end of the month for wheel refurb and paintwork sorting so its getting there slowly. Sent from my SM-G920F using Tapatalk
