vr6 stalling.....help please

Recommended Posts

Hi, my VR6 is stalling at times when I dip the clutch while slowing down/stopping at lights etc. When i disconnect the battery and reconnect it runs fine for about a week then starts the stalling thing again. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, its driving me up the wall and there is a lack of decent garages near me.

cheers

Before the mods get here I'd suggest the search function, this is a common problem on the VR6.

Possible issues are - dodgy ISV, MAF, blue temp sender, cracked/split air intake, fuel pressure reg, fuel pump, Lambda etc etc..... you'll find loads of posts on this.

First port of call is a diagnostic readout to check for fault codes. Get it hooked up to VAGCOM.

Haven't got a pic of the ISV (Idle Stablisation Valve) - don't you just hate acronyms :)

You need to remove the rear black plastic cover on the top of the engine that the plug leads sit in, then if you look at the top right hand side you'll see a valve with an electrical plug and a couple of black hoses connected to it. Remove it and spray some carb cleaner into it and move the plunger back and forward with a screwdiver or similar. Repeat this a few times, draining the fluid and spraying more in and when the fluid looks reasonably clean dry it out with a rag or something then refit. If it only needed a clean it should solve the problem.

Good luck :)
