What is the black chrome effect on the dust shields, is it something that comes in a can, powder coating or hot dip??

Looks cool by the way :)

Powdercoating - Color is called "Black Chrome", haven't seen it yet, but I think it's a bit "darker" in real life though....;)

Another small update:

Finished painting the wheelbay and "refresh" the plastic in there - brake hoses are cut of as the calipers currently is getting a well deserved makeover at Bigg red with polymer coating etc...:) (picture lying a bit - it's "black" when you see it...:)

The intake manifold before blasting:

After blasting (don't think it got the finnish I'm after so will most likely get powdercoated in black chrome - or something similar to aluminium color):

Cleaned up the TB a bit too:

It looks to me like a funny mottled dark blue in the pics, which I think is immense. I'm sure it looks great in real life though.

Sweet!!

Bra jobbat!

Great work!

Hope I will see it on Bugrun next year!

How hard is it to remove the subframe??? Can I just raise the engine and hold it there?

hmmm, removing the subframe is quite straight forward, but I had the engine out of the car, you probably will in some way or another be able to support the engine (remember the two rear engine mounts sits in the subframe), but it might be easier to just take the engine out first?......

fantastic, make sure you post some build-up pics too. Very well done. Is ceramic, and powder coating expensive to get done over there?

Thnx, sure will add pics of the buildup as well :)

I have a friend who does powdercoating and ceramic coating so the cost isn't that bad...:) (the real cost is in sending the parts as he lives in another part of the country)...;)

Another small update.

The engine is now almost ready, the chain have been done, new lifters, new valve stem seals, MK4 head gasket, new stainless crack pipe, all new plastic (thermostat housing etc), all new sensors on the oil-filter housing, and in thermostat housing. it's pretty much assembled only missing the crack pipe/thermostat housing + a few other bits a pieces.

The block have also been etched primed and painted with anthracite gray.

Some bad phone pics from the painting:

Etch primer:

And the anthracite gray paint (2 coatings) (I did 3 thin coats - but pics taken after second painting) (it's currently drying up the last layer)..;)

After a loooong and cold winter it's finaly time for some more small updates.

Got the drivetrain re-fitted, and it's now able to stand by itselfe :) (Today - so a small mile stone).

The rear axel ready to go on - brakes refurbished at Bigg red and everything else is new (don't mind the old brake line - it's getting replaced)...:)

thnx - realy starting to see the end of the tunnel - even though it's still some work to be done....;)

Anyone happen to remember if the engine can be lowered down, and getting the driveshafts to fit, without loosening em at the outside - or taking down the wheel-hub to get more "space" ?.

thnx m8, I guess it will never be a "show" car - but hopefully will get good in the end - hope the powder coating works out good - if not I guess I have to take it back and get it re-done in another color lol...:)

I guess the "blue sparkle" is the one people is most "vary" about - but it realy do look black in real life ;)

Cheers!

Finaly some real progress being done on this Corrado.

- Got new brake lines and hoses +++ fitted (going to have to get some new OEM VW brake hoses though as the goodridge stuff I bought is total cr** IMHO - the rear was wrong, and the front ones (one side) doesn't seem to hold the seal properly...:( ).

- Got the engine fitted in the car - still some electric to be connected, and some of the water hoses etc.

- Missing the air-intake as I lost the gasket between the TB and the air intake - new one ordered.

- Partly fitted the Hartmann Exhaust system - missing the midle "pipe" as I have to cut it to fit.

Some pics of the progress:

As it sits tonight:
