RichG60 0 Posted December 19, 2008 Guys my G60 has the following mods :- 68mm pulley rsr outlet blanking plate sns 5.5 chip Gwerks Stage 4 charger Miltek exhaust with no cat Now the exhaust does sound nice, at idle its a bit loud though, when I first start her up she is crazy loud then it settles down. When your cruising around its fine but a bit boomy. Also sounds a bit tinney from underneath but put that down to not having a cat. Now im not sure if my exhaust has blown baffles but are Miltek exhausts generally regarded as a louder exhaust on the G60 compared to other aftermarket brands? I'm tempted to fit a standard exhaust but not sure if it would cause issues with the state of tune. Also would be a gap between the manifold down pipe and the exhaust due to the missing cat. :? Supercharged 2 Posted December 20, 2008 I think it's just the way the Millteks are tbh altho there is a lot to do with the fitment of these... try some new rubbers from VW maybe...
G Charged 0 Posted December 21, 2008 i spoke to pipewerks about this...tits pretty difficult to do as a g60 kinda flows twice as much air, you can go quiet but that is restrictive and the amount of heat the g60 puts out you will end up melting exhaust boxes...and that isnt good...ive gone through 4 exhausts where exhaust places told me it will be sufficient. i would go to pipewerks but they are faaaaaaaaarrrr!! i was reading the user piano-something off this site has used a techtonics exhaust that utilises borla silencers which is quiet on his vr6t which may be possibility i havent heard of anyone using one on a G60...however i will be visiting charlie at prospeed(chek the site, alot of the high power guys around here swear by him) ...i would love for mine to be quiet but i think i may just have to suffice for a loud exhaust...or use a valve...hmm just thought of that while typing....research time! davidwort 0 Posted December 21, 2008 from chopping and changing exhausts I've come to the conclusion that a) stainless is harder and always transmits more noise and b) the 'suitcase' mid/rear silencer where the exhaust crosses over from the centre to the backbox is carefully designed by VW to keep the system quiet, the vast majority of aftermarket exhausts just seem to incorporate a basic small silencer in this position, if at all, and that's not really enough. Because this silencer position is under the rear seats you often get a lot of booming, a couple of layers of dynamat or something will help a lot here. jonny-5 0 Posted December 21, 2008 Demon Tweaks sell exhaust decibel inserts, for this sort of application, I think they're only about 30 quid or so. Might be worth a look.
Toad 0 Posted December 21, 2008 i was reading the user piano-something off this site has used a techtonics exhaust that utilises borla silencers which is quiet on his vr6t which may be possibility i havent heard of anyone using one on a G60... I think that turboed cars should be quieter than supercharged cars, as the turbo does a lot of silencing of the exhuast noise. It certainly seems to be the supercharged VR6s that are the loudest on the rolling road days anyway.
corradog60stage4 0 Posted December 21, 2008 maybe the addition of another resonator or free flow catalytic convertor will reduce some noise. I have a custom made exhaust I fabricated after my Eurosport reace headers with two pretty big Magnaflow resonators out to a supersprint rear muffler. I will need to add a catalytic just so the police do not harass me . Eurosport ceramic coated race headers ball socket joint of race header and i added a flange for the first magnaflow ss resonator second magnaflow ss resonator and flanges again end of second resonator with dual 90 degree mandrel bends leading over the axle. Sebring stainless steel axleback muffler dirty chromed oval tip a pic from the rear

RichG60 0 Posted December 21, 2008 Put a hi-flow CAT's in, the CAT's absorb a lot of the low frequency noise, the'll also be there during the MOT... The car was registered Jan 92 so the cats not required and has passed its MOT with no problem on emmisions. The cat location would be the best bit to alter though, Sports cats are quite dear though. Will have to look in to it.
KipVR 1 Posted December 21, 2008 Oh right, sorry I didn't realise it didn't need one! An extra silencer then, although the packing won't last long up the front it'll still help.
