Blown 0 Posted February 16, 2009 Hi everyone. I'm having a problem in removing the old valve stem seals from the head of my G60.They appear to be locked in place by the guides. Are the valve guides removable and if so,do they have to be pressed out or does VW have some special tool for doing this? Or is there a way of removing/replacing the seals without having to remove the guides? Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. davidwort 0 Posted February 16, 2009 the guides do indeed need to be pressed out to remove them, but I've never heard of having to remove them to replace the stem seals, we've done a mk2 8v (same basic head design) by simply putting an air line into the head to hold the valves up and replacing the stem seals with the head still on. colsy 0 Posted February 16, 2009 just done my stem seals, they were a little tight, but using the propper tool, and some dismantling fluid I had no problems. no need to remove the guides. Col.
colsy 0 Posted February 16, 2009 Sorry, the tool is just a standard valve stem seal puller, some snipe nose pliers should sufice tho.
