teething problems??

Recommended Posts

just had my car back after head gasket done & skimming etc...

it feels sound but on my way home (20miles) the oil temp went upto 124 and coolant temp was right over halfway...it used to sit just below!!! is this ok??

i`m assuming the engine will behave slightly differently to how it was!!

also the dash needles started to jump when wipers went or i flashed my lights...bad earth???

cheers

glad to have it back though!!

The jumpy needles could be the reason for the high temperature readings also, assuming there isn't an airlock in the coolant system.

Ben you didnt tell me it went up to 124c, thats to high! Should idealy ever get that high. Mate if it does it again take it strait back to AVW where you had the work done. I doubt they have made a mistake they have a good repuation, but you never know!

See-ya at home for xmas Ben, hopefully you'll have it sorted by then!

the car feels great...lots more power from 2500rpm which it didnt have before....makes me feel like its an electrical problem!!

the battery went flat whilst it was standing and the dash did some funny things.... flashing hazards and resetting everything-dunno if thats got anything to do with it!!!

i dunno-!!!

I had the head gasket, de-coke, piston rings etc. done recently as well. Both water and Oil temps changed after the work. Oil went from average of 116 to a steady 112 now (116 when thrashing the nuts off). Think temp sits at 90.

Will take time to bed-in but I agree, 124 sounds high. May be linked to the electric probs? Accurate readings?

Best of luck...

I am sure there is an earth that goes onto either the end rocker cover bolt or the end coolant housing. ( double nut) Its been a while since ive seen one in the flesh. Anyway if these are not conected/broken/loose, the instruments go all over the shop.

I wouldnt worry about the coolant guage siiting just over half too much. The oil temp is very high though. My initial thoughts are electrical though.

Could be air locked though (cooling system) and as a result you are not getting enough flow through the oil cooler.

i know its a long shot but possible.

will check earths again...they looked fine at a glance. but it seems to have calmed down now... on normal daily drive today it sat at 104-6 and no needles jumping???

not gonna get a chance for a proper run till monday but (touch wood) it`ll be ok!!

coolant etc fine when i checked , how can i check for an air lock and how do you get rid of one??

cheers.
