Alex_G60_Fanatic 0 Posted June 26, 2009 (edited) Hello all! I became a member here almost a month ago but I've still to post pictures of my C. I've been waiting for the sun to come out so i can work on her without fear of rain (as when i first bought her i didn't have a garage to work in!!) and i thought I'd better wait for some in-progress pictures before posting as she looked a mess when i first got her! I kinda got diddled buying her. Completely Std charged G60 with Tax and MOT (but with nothing left on the brakes) and 160k on the clock for £1800 :brickwall:  I had my heart set on her though and i couldn't find anything similar to her within 150 miles so i bit the bullet and bought her... 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfcorrado 010.jpg[/attachment:8s0ylpyo] corrado 013.jpg[/attachment:8s0ylpyo] There was rust everywhere but at the time i saw it as minor, Fox alloys ( :pukeright:) were scuffed and almost dead but again who cares... they where cheep alloys anyway!. Also, the boy I bought it off had a receipt from G-works for the charger being ported and with a new 68mm pulley about 20k miles previously so i had a good 15k before i had to worry about that but otherwise it was all standard, which was fine. At the time i was looking for a car to concourse so i didn't mind she was standard. But then some bad news... Driving her home from work i noticed she was pulling to the right, so on a quiet bit on a B road i "jiggled" the steering from side to side to try and gage the problem... The problem soon became apparent when my OS tyre collapsed and I flew off into the hedge :pale:. Subframe had been completely torn and the wheel had just shot straight up into the wheel arch.. I seriously considered saying Bu**er to the G60 dream and scrapping her there and then when i stumbled across this forum. With all you happy chaps talking about what a shame it was to loose a rado as they aren't that common. And at the same time i came into possession of a shed! :norty: So, AGAIN i said bugger to expense and scrapped the EARTH trying to get a new subframe, wish bones and anti-roll bar. Finally managed to get some in Perth second hand from a I-plate rado (rip :salute: ) and got them fitted for me.. £300 notes later I now have a Corrado with the same problems as before but at least she could be driven without a tow rope! Anywho, that was 3 months ago when i finally found a GOOD subframe and had it fitted. Since then I have been concentrating on the body work as i decided to get a second car for when i started working on the C (l.4L Polo) so i wasn't really well off. Also, a shed is one thing but i needed a dry place to work on her out of the rain, and until 4 weeks ago when i got a shot of my GF's garage she was just sitting on the drive. So on to the cosmetics! :afro: stromlaufplan_gamma4.pdf2009 211.jpg[/attachment:8s0ylpyo] ETKA Corrado.pdf2009 212.jpg[/attachment:8s0ylpyo] stromlaufplan_gamma4.pdf2009 216.jpg[/attachment:8s0ylpyo] This is her last week, I had just started to remove the flaking paint where the rusty bits where. You can see that most of the cills and arches where going from the areas i've done. Corrado92.pdf2009 215.jpg[/attachment:8s0ylpyo] passat climatronic wiring diags.pdf2009 227.jpg[/attachment:8s0ylpyo] and to top it off i went and found this on the OS rear wheel arch climatronic wiring-Golf from May 01.pdf2009 218.jpg[/attachment:8s0ylpyo] :censored: So, tomorrow is finish sanding off the arches, bonnet and cills, then get in there with some Krust (or something!) before patching up the hole with fibreglass and smoothing off that and the rest of the car with some isopon P38. then off too do my alloys. You may have noticed one of the alloys has the bolt cover missing. That's because im currently respraying the alloys (the one with the missing cover has been done) while also experimenting with replacing the FOX badge with a G60 one. Dont know how best to proceed though. Might have to be HAND PAINTED, but then i DO have a GCSE in art you know! :camp: Jan 2010 Gunna be keeping a list of problems and mods with pictures to follow in the thread when i fix/fit them. The the Avatar pic was taken off of a "instructables" web site on a method for taking pictures of a moving car so i dont know whos driving it! Cheeky i know but its an awesome pic
Alex_G60_Fanatic 0 Posted July 6, 2009 Did some more work on the C this weekend. Only being able to work on her once a week is becoming frustrating esspecialy as i have a million other things to get done. But at least she is under cover in a garage now instead of in the road. Saturday was working on the wheel arches 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfDSC00078.JPG[/attachment:1h9nos1x] this was one of the holes. Its a little big for ip38 alone so I firstly sprayed a few coats of Hamerite up into the gap between the two panels to kill any rust that might be hiding. DSC00079.JPG[/attachment:1h9nos1x] I then went on to re-sand the metal and fill the hole with fibreglass on both sides, at least 5mm below the finished paint level. I repeated this process on about 4-5 other spots round the car, the biggest hole being approximately the size of a golf ball :gag: just as i finished however it started to rain so i went in for the day. Next Saturday is sanding down the filler and spraying
Alex_G60_Fanatic 0 Posted August 10, 2009 She aint going so well.... A lack of funds, bad weather and high levels of humidity have come together to produce a crap finish to the areas of the car I've been painting... I'm currently looking at getting a pal to come over and give me a hand. I realy wont the body work done so i can prime the underside of the car and get her propped up on supports ready for the winter but at the moment its not looking at all like its going to happen before October/November  Im going to get some pictures of the affected areas up asap. any suggestions would be welcome... Leonard 0 Posted August 10, 2009 Looks like you are fighting hard there mate. Must admit if it was me I would be replacing the panels I think. You can get cheapish ones circa £40 a piece. I would have thought that the rear 3/4 will need welding though and quite a tricky area. Keep up the good work though, you are saving another c from the scrapper and she does look like she has potential! 8)

Keep up the good work though, you are saving another c from the scrapper and she does look like she has potential! 8) the fibre glass and filler have done the trick getting the shape ok, not sure how its going to hang up strength wise but the finish of the sanding and everything im really happy with.. its just the painting. I can't afford to get it professionally sprayed (or buy new panels for that matter as there are parts of each panal that need work done on them, i'd have to buy a whole new set! :gag: ) so I'm using aerosol cans... and with all the rain we have been having its made the air wet and the shed I'm working in is full of dust... all leading to really crap finishes on the paint. I haven't lacquered yet so there's still time to correct the errors in the paint. but without a clean, dry dust free environment to work in I'm stuck doing nothing at the moment :( The only reason I keep going back to her is because i want to save her from the eternal scrape pile in the sky... at the rate ppl are braking these cars there wont be many left soon
Alex_G60_Fanatic 0 Posted August 13, 2009 sorry about the quality of the pics :( this is the sanding on the rear, actually took it out to get some petrol in her and its quite a bumpy rd to the petrol station. No cracks, or pits appeared so i think the strength is ok 2.8l 24v Climatronic system.pdfDSC00110.JPG[/attachment:35tyjwv0] and again DSC00111.JPG[/attachment:35tyjwv0]
Alex_G60_Fanatic 0 Posted August 23, 2009 went to start the car saturday and it looks like either the ignition switch is broke or the starter motor is seized. It will push start so i took her out for a mile or two, just hope its nothing too serious :(
Alex_G60_Fanatic 0 Posted August 31, 2009 Im an idiot..... Was trying to test the starter motor to see if that was the problem to it not starting.... went to it and tapped the terminal with a jump lead attached to the battery.. nothing So i disconnected it from the circuit and tapped again, still nothing SOOO i decided to rip it out... so i did. surprisingly easy i thought.... to take out such a integral component. :| Would anyone like to see what i removed???????? Photo-0003.jpg[/attachment:u4nmhhh7] I got half way bk from the garage to home before i twigged.... id just removed the alternator :| :brickwall: i have ZERO idea what was going through my mind while i was trapping alternators instead of motors... its got a fly wheel for gods sake! Sooo 2 hours of fiddling has produced no answers and at least 30mins of reattaching alternators..... Alex_G60_Fanatic 0 Posted September 30, 2009 OK... its been a while. I have: found a broken starter motor (it was the issue.. not the ALTERNATOR)[/*:m:3pb9qo4i] Refurbished another alloy wheel[/*:m:3pb9qo4i] primed the damaged panels[/*:m:3pb9qo4i] However, i have now been thrown out of my GF's Garage :( , her brother is using it to house his new Integra :brickwall: so the rado has been relegated to the drive way... meaning im going to need to get a car cover for it... and soon! colinstubbs 0 Posted September 30, 2009 i have now been thrown out of my GF's Garage :( That's a bit sh!t mate, is the Integra gonna melt while you weather proof your C :camp: . I hope you GF has other, more redeeming features............
Alex_G60_Fanatic 0 Posted October 1, 2009 That's a bit sh!t mate, is the Integra gonna melt while you weather proof your C :camp: buy the way this kid acts you' d think it was going to! Mind you, this is his 3rd car in a year... maybe he doesnt wont to crash this one, just keep it in the garage. I hope you GF has other, more redeeming features............ Alex_G60_Fanatic 0 Posted November 5, 2009 the saga indeed continues... Approaching the winter and now and ive been forced to take the carrado bk to my flat in dundee. The stupid integra apparently cant go outside because it has a broken window seal so theres no hope of getting it in the garage at the same time :( If anyone knows of a lock-up or shed or garage thats going vacent then please pm me soon as poss! not being able to work on her is very frustrating!!! :brickwall:
Alex_G60_Fanatic 0 Posted November 12, 2009 broke up with the misses so the car is just sat there now... feel a bit disheartened about it. Didn't even manage to get a place to store her in the winter :(
colinstubbs 0 Posted November 12, 2009 Sorry to hear that mate. Best thing to do to the Corrado is smother it in wax and waxoyl for the winter, beats watching it rot  Chin up mate it'll get better things always do!! 8)
MK1Campaign 0 Posted November 12, 2009 I hate to say this but fibreglass and filler isnt the way to go. Itll be bubbling up in no time. You need new metal welding in.

Wild-Animal 0 Posted November 13, 2009 If you know how to weld you can pick low cost MIG, might do for what you want. I would volunteer to do the welding but yeah welding on car is the worst. If not prob best take to a specialist. See how your filler goes, Stick in there :D
