VR6 Black temp sender

Recommended Posts

Please can someone confirm to me the location of the black temp sender on my VR? I’m doing a manual fan override switch for fan speed 3 and need to know for sure before I go mad with the soldering iron and wire snips! Is it the sensor which sits to the right of the yellow and blue senders as the top rad hose enters the engine? Presumably I can also test the circuit by unclipping the plug and bridging the two contacts on the plug with a screwdriver– if the fan comes on everything’s working fine.

yep thats the one but i dont think the wiring goes directly to the fan. I think it was suggested that the thrird speed fan should not run for too long continuously as the wiring has been undersized and could overheat.

The wiring is fine. The fan wiring is the heavy gauge it is because of the 3rd speed. The 3rd speed is activated by the low current black sender toggling a relay in the fan controller.

yes, bridging the connections in the black sender plug will confirm the circuit works.

I'm wondering how to splice into the current wiring - most of the wires near to the engine are very brittle from the age and heat now. I might see if I can take the sensor plug apart and feed the switch sire into there so I'm not actually snipping wires
