deleting suitcase silencer

Recommended Posts

the suitcase silencer on my 2l 16v has broken where the pipe enters and its been blowing and making a right racket :gag:

was just thinking of deleting it completely seeming as the air flow is a lot better than it was (she flies :D ) and its cheeper.....

has anyone done this before? is it a bad idea/good idea?

thanks,

dom.

quite a few aftermarket systems can be bought without this silencer, although generally it will make the car a fair bit noisier inside, you can either fit a generic straight through small silencer in it's place, which won't make a huge anount of difference to the noise, but won't affect flow either, or put lots of felt/dynamat under the rear seating area, or both :)

If I replace the suitcase with a small box would it improve the performance at all or not :confused4:

i did notice that the aftermarket systems didn't have this silencer which it what gave me the idea.

its costing me £35 quid so i thought i would just see if anyone knew of any problems that would arise although this is inevitable with a corrado :) .

will give an update on noise and performance....

I've full on cracked my one of these in half now from my ride height. 8)

I doubt getting rid of it would make it too loud. Mines going to be going for a full system though hopefully. But i reckon just a piece of pipe instead would work fine...

Bally's valver ran a system with no suitcase, very quiet really, it's the tailbox design that makes the most difference but you will get more interior noise with a straight through pipe particularly if the rest of the system is stainless.

hi there if you buy 2 90 exh bends from you car accessories shop and clamp them together so u get a s shape that will do away with the mid box and it does not go to load and is a cheap but good fix :norty:

yea, got them to weld a bit of pipe in the gap between the clamps so it removes as a section if i ever do need to put a silencer back on.

because the pipes where offset the fabbed pipe is like an s bend.

slightly better flow now aswell.
