rob1234 0 Posted February 18, 2010 Have spent all morning searching the forum for this, so forgive me if you think these are daft questions...: 1) What is the gearbox code for a standard UK Corrado VR6? 2) Is there a UK gearbox that is a direct swap for the above, with a 3.68 FD? 3) How difficult is it to to swap FDs in the current box? I have the usage of a full motorsports garage, and am quite handy with a spanner so labour is effectively free. Thanks!
Kevin Bacon 5 Posted February 18, 2010 VR6 is CHN code. If you have a VR6 and want a 3.68FD, you'll need the crownwheel from a Corrado G60 box, or you can buy them new from VW for ~£150+VAT IIRC. You'll need to split the box and get the crownwheel pins pressed out. Then swap them over and reassemble with some ARP crownwheel bolts. A good oppurtunity to fit an LSD whilst you're in there, and a new clutch obviously.

Kevin Bacon 5 Posted February 18, 2010 "Bring Captain Solo and the Wiki to me....." LOL, I'll get my coat  Oh and the CDM Corrado VR6 gearbox is the US market only one. The SLC only got a 2.8 engine and bogged down with emissions kit, so it got the 3.6 diff to make the 0-60 comparable to the European 2.9. All European Golf and Corrado VRs should have the CHN (3.3 diff).

rob1234 0 Posted February 18, 2010 Many thanks - keep forgetting the wiki (does the search look there?)! 1) Seen the GB and would love an LSD, but trying to keep costs right down I'm afraid! Reckon I can do this for 2) Will keep my eyes peeled for a G60 box then. Will the FD from a 2l 16v (CGY/CES) fit? 3) I presume a 3.94 FD would be unsuitable for every-day road use...
