rocker cover gasket confusion?

Recommended Posts

can anyone help please? I have a 2ltr 16v 9a (m reg/dec '94) and am after a new rocker cover gasket. my rocker cover is the original one and has flat edge faces that sit against the gasket, the gasket from vw has rubber tabs that locate into hollow sections on the cover and doesn't fit mine. they say that is the only one available, does anyone know the part number i do need? :help:

yeah, the rocker cover looks exaclty like the one in the pic but the gasket in the pic will not fit as it has the lugs on. so are you saying that i might have a mk3 golf cover on a 9a engine?

well, yes and no, you have a mk3 cover but that's because after a certain engine number (in the diagram) the 9a engine moved over to the mk3 16v style cam cover,

you have a rubbish VW parts man, that's all :)

Change on engine number

upto Engine No. 9A131460 uses 027198025

Anything afterwards uses the later 'ABF' gasket

Can't see how VW got this wrong unless you have the wrong cam cover?
