Mawrick 0 Posted April 13, 2010 Trying to refitt the drive axels, but have big trouble getting the outer CV joint to get thru the wheel hub. Any idea if it's a thight fit - and maybe need some force used and/or put the nut on and use that to kinda "drag" the joint thru?. I get it far enough to fit a nut on it.... I'v tried to clean it up good and also tryed some small amount of grease on it to no avail...:(
dbug 0 Posted April 13, 2010 have you knocked it over the spring clip fitted to the end of the drive shaft ? put gearbox in neutral and turn drive shaft to help engage splines. my new ones slid straight in and the nut did up tight so that about 4 threads are showing above the nut. Mawrick 0 Posted April 13, 2010 Don't have engine in - and refitting the old ones after replacing boots, I get it far enough to fit the nut, so guess I can just thighten it up....
Rob_B 0 Posted April 13, 2010 Just tighten the nut
mikkijayne 0 Posted April 14, 2010 VR6 CV joints are often loctited in place, so you may find there is some left over in the splines in the hub making it hard to slide the joint in. Try cleaning the inside of the hub splines with a wire brush or a sharp screwdriver :cat:
