G60 Help....

Recommended Posts

Hi guys,

The missus is having a few dramas with the G60.

Firstly the idle is very low, it ticks over about 500RPM and she's proper lumpy when cold. Changed the plugs and ordered leads. Also a new hose as one as a slight hole in it. Any other suggestions.

Secondly it started raining this morning and we used the wipers for the first time on intermittant. When the wipers started the clocks cut out and came back on. This only took a fraction of a second. The time and MFA got reset when it did this, the lights (oil, water etc) flashed up and the rev counter dipped. Am I right in thinking this could possibly be ignition switch? I know they can cause no end of problems!

Going to ring VW now to get price on new ignition switch and ECU relay cos its not going to do any harm changing those. Does this sound like it would fix the problem?

Shes only had the car a few weeks and is worrying about it! Understandable really as she loves this car! :)

Cheers dudes and dudettes! :D

Slim :salute:

my money would be on digifant relay (ecu), check battery terminals are nice and tight and as for the revs the ecu vac hose needs to be in good condition and exactly 1m long. may be worth changing blue temp sender too

Hi Slim, poor idle can be caused by any one of several problems but the blue temp sensor at the front is a known fairly common cause & is available from VW dealer & is easily changed when engine is cold you will not loose much if any coolant, new sealing ring also essential.

You mention hose leaking but dont mention if its a vacuum/breather or coolant, vacuum hoses with air leaks can cause the problems you describe. Your problem with wipers & dials cutting out/resetting could be ignition switch related but its worth checking your battery connections & main earths which are to the chassis just behind the battery & the bell housing. make sure they are clean & tight.

Hope this helps Mick

groovy! cheers for all the advice! :)

ordered new ignition switch, dizzy cap and rotor arm too. can't do any harm like! lol

will get on and order a new temp sender in the morning... from vw! :) anyone got a part number?

oh, rang them today about an ecu relay but they weren't sure which one it was and wanted the code off of the side but the car was in having tracking done. don't suppose anyone knows the code off the top of their heads do they?

will have to check the earth straps and reset the idle. how do i go about reseting it?

the battery terminals are nice and tight, checked that first. the hose that was split was the one off the top of the rocker cover that feeds back into the charger. presumably thats just a breather?

other than that when the cars above 1000 rpm shes fine, pulls and pulls all the way to the redline! :D

sorry for all the questions guys, not had much to do with rado's or superchargers tbh! learning slowy though! :) lol

anywho, enough for now...

slim :salute:
